Sony Unveils Marathon Limited Edition PS5 DualSense Controller

The launch of Marathon is just around the corner, and Sony is marking the occasion with special limited-edition PS5 accessories. There were doubts whether this new game from Bungie would ever be released, but it’s now set to come out on March 5th. Whether Marathon will be a hit remains to be seen, but players will have the option to enjoy it with some unique gear.

Bungie announced their new extraction shooter in 2023, but development hit some roadblocks. Following concerns about copied artwork and disappointing initial playtests, Marathon was put on hold, leaving fans worried about its future. Fortunately, things have improved significantly in the last year. The game now has a confirmed release date, price, and even some special accessories planned for PlayStation 5.

Bungie announced the release date for Marathon on January 19th, along with details about pre-order perks. Immediately after, Sony revealed a special Marathon edition DualSense controller and Pulse Elite wireless headset. Both accessories will be available starting March 5, 2026 – the same day the game launches. Pre-orders begin January 29th at 10 AM Eastern Time in the U.S. Fans in certain European countries can also pre-order the DualSense controller at 10 AM local time that day, but the Pulse Elite headset will only be sold in the U.S. Sony hasn’t specified exactly how many of each accessory will be made, but they’ve confirmed quantities are limited, so interested buyers should pre-order as soon as possible to avoid missing out.

Marathon Limited Edition DualSense and Pulse Elite Release Date and Prices

  • Marathon Limited Edition DualSense — Price: $84.99
  • Marathon Limited Edition Pulse Elite — Price: $169.99
  • Release date: March 5, 2026
  • Pre-orders start January 21 at 10 AM (ET) in the U.S./10 AM local time in the U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

The special Marathon DualSense controller will cost around $85 – the same price as last year’s limited edition Death Stranding controller, but $10 more than the standard DualSense. The Marathon Pulse Elite headset will be $170, which is $20 more expensive than the regular PS5 headset. While this is a price increase, fans might be willing to spend more on accessories since Marathon won’t be a full-priced game. Bungie has also confirmed the standard edition of the game will cost $40.

Following a year of setbacks and public issues for Bungie, it’s hard to predict how fans will react to Marathon. Releasing special PlayStation 5 accessories alongside the game might help build enthusiasm and regain trust after a difficult period. Despite admitting some recent live service games haven’t performed well, Sony is still committed to this type of game, so a large marketing campaign for Marathon makes sense. The Deluxe and Collector’s Editions also offer a lot of appealing bonus content and collectibles.

It’s a great time to own a PlayStation 5, even beyond the excitement around the game Marathon. Sony recently announced three new colors for both the PS5 console and its DualSense controller, and several games are also getting special edition controllers. With people already wondering about the PS6, it seems the current PS5 generation is finishing strong. Games like Marathon should help with that, but we’ll have to wait until its release this spring to see how popular it becomes.
