The anime Jujutsu Kaisen recently started its third season, and it’s been amazing, just like everything else from the studio MAPPA. It really seems like they can’t miss – every project they work on is a success!

Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen are really appreciating how well MAPPA has kept up the show’s quality, especially while working on the Culling Game arc. The first few episodes have repeatedly referenced this ‘Culling Game,’ but what exactly is it?

What Is The Culling Game In Jujutsu Kaisen?

What appears to be a competition, known as the Culling Game, is actually something far more complex. For hundreds of years, Kenjaku has been attempting to find ways to advance humanity, but his plans have repeatedly failed or been thwarted. Tengen revealed that someone with the Six Eyes ability stopped Kenjaku twice, leading him to eliminate both the current and next users of the Six Eyes, along with the Star Plasma Vessel. However, a new vessel and a new user of the Six Eyes were born just as Tengen was being absorbed, complicating Kenjaku’s plans.

When his initial plans failed, Kenjaku changed tactics. He sealed away the person with the Six Eyes, knowing that ability couldn’t be shared. He also benefited from a stroke of luck: Toji Fushiguro killed the Star Plasma Vessel, freeing her from her destined connection to both Tengen and Gojo Satoru. Following this, Kenjaku focused on finding the Prison Realm to trap Gojo Satoru, and he ultimately achieved this during the Shibuya Incident. With Gojo contained, the ancient sorcerer was finally able to pursue his goals without opposition.

The Culling Game Needs To Be Stopped At All Costs

Kenjaku wants to force human evolution in Japan, and he needs Tengen to do it. His plan involves creating conflict between sorcerers and non-sorcerers, believing this will maximize their cursed energy and push them to the next level. The Culling Game provides the ideal environment for this, and Kenjaku is likely to succeed. If he does, countless lives could be lost. To defeat him, Itadori Yuji and his allies must join the Culling Game and outsmart him.

The Rules of Culling Game In Jujutsu Kaisen

The Culling Game has eight rules that must be followed by everyone competing in the competition.

  1. Anyone who has awakened their cursed technique must declare their participation within 19 days at the colony of their choice.
  2. Any individual who breaks the first rule will lose their cursed technique. Tengen confirmed that it would result in the death of the person. Players who possess no cursed technique will not die from this rule.
  3. Non-players who enter a colony will become players. It will be considered a sign of their willingness to participate. However, people who are already inside a barrier will be given the opportunity to leave once.
  4. The only way to earn points is by killing other players.
  5. Each player is assigned players depending on their skills by the game master. To lessen the confusion, each sorcerer’s life has 5 points, while a non-sorcerer’s life is valued at 1 point. Cursed Spirits are also worth 5 points.
  6. Players who gain 100 points can ask the game master to add any new rule, provided it doesn’t impede the Culling Game. Also, the point value of a player doesn’t count towards their accumulated points. Furthermore, the player cannot ask any previous ruler to be subtracted.
  7. The game master has to add any new rule, as long as it doesn’t negatively impact the Culling Game.
  8. If a player’s score doesn’t change for 19 days, then their cursed technique will be removed, meaning they will die.

The Culling Game hasn’t fully started yet, so no new rules have been introduced, but that’s about to change in the next episodes of Jujutsu Kaisen. The heroes have split into teams, and Itadori and Yuta are already heading to join the game and rescue Gojo Satoru. They’re aware that time is running out and need to act quickly to prevent many deaths.
