Bizarre Marathon Bug Auto-Installs Destiny 2 When You Pre-Order

Bungie recently announced the release date for Marathon, and pre-orders quickly became available on Steam. However, a technical issue caused Destiny 2 to unexpectedly install on Steam whenever someone pre-ordered Marathon, the new extraction shooter game.

A peculiar glitch in the game received a lot of attention online, with one player jokingly claiming that buying the game ‘Marathon’ automatically installs the game ‘Destiny 2’ on your computer.

Bungie Fixes Marathon Bug

Shortly after a bug appeared on Steam, Bungie fixed it. They also solved a problem that prevented owners of the Collector’s Edition from redeeming their game code on the platform.

The team wrote on social media:

We fixed a problem that caused Destiny 2 to start downloading after players pre-ordered the Marathon expansion on Steam. We also resolved an error that prevented owners of the Collector’s Edition from activating their game code on Steam.

Despite the overall mess, the funny comments about what happened were a bright spot.

Someone joked that the development of the game Marathon was so troubled, it spawned a mischievous bug that makes anyone it infects install the game Destiny 2.

Another said, ‘Bungie trying to revive Destiny 2 by any means possible.’

This is a really strange glitch, considering Destiny 2 and Marathon are completely unrelated games, except for a connection through one of the developers.

Bungie recently revealed a new trailer for their game, Marathon, and announced it will be released on March 5th. To mark the launch, PlayStation is offering a special, limited-edition collection of accessories that you can pre-order starting January 29th.

Hopefully, pre-ordering the special controller won’t accidentally add a PlayStation Portal to our order, or anything like that.
