I was so excited to finally see the full reveal of Life is Strange: Reunion yesterday! Deck Nine and Square Enix are continuing the story after Life is Strange: Double Exposure, which came out last year. And the biggest news for me? Chloe Price is back! It’s been since 2017 since we’ve seen her, and as a huge ‘Pricefield’ fan, I’m absolutely thrilled!
She’ll team up with Max Caulfield in a desperate attempt to prevent disaster – again. However, fans were disappointed to learn that Ashly Burch, who originally voiced Chloe Price, won’t be returning for this installment.
Chloe Price Will Not Be Played by Ashly Burch
Okay, so I remember being super into Life is Strange when it first came out in 2015, and Ashly Burch was Chloe Price. She totally nailed it! But when the prequel, Before the Storm, came out in 2017, she couldn’t voice Chloe again because she was caught up in a voice actor’s strike. It was a bummer, but Rhianna DeVries stepped in and honestly, she did a pretty good job filling those shoes.
I was so excited yesterday when Deck Nine announced Life is Strange: Reunion! Even better, they revealed that Ashly Burch will be back as Chloe Price, alongside Hannah Telle as Max Caulfield. It’s awesome to know we’ll hear those voices again!
Fans expressed their disappointment online, with many arguing that a reunion isn’t genuine without the original voice actor participating.
A frustrated fan expressed deep disappointment with the upcoming ‘Life is Strange: Reunion.’ They said it’s difficult to get excited about the new installment after being let down by the previous game, and they were particularly upset to learn that Ashly Burch won’t be reprising her role as Chloe. They questioned the developers’ decisions.
Another offered a lengthy explanation to cover the community’s dismay:
It’s odd that the creators of ‘Life is Strange’ brought Chloe back due to fan demand, but then didn’t invest in hiring Ashly Burch, the original voice actor. Her performance was a huge part of what made the character so popular, so it seems like a strange oversight.
In an attempt to dig deeper, one user raised a fair point:
As a big fan, I’m really puzzled by the voice casting in this game. They brought back Rhianna DeVries to play Chloe, but I was expecting Ashly Burch, who originally voiced her! It’s so strange because there isn’t a SAG-AFTRA strike happening right now, which was the reason for the recasting in ‘Before the Storm’. It just feels…off, you know?
Fans who truly love Life is Strange will almost certainly buy Reunion, even if they’re hesitant. The conclusion to Max and Chloe’s story is too compelling to miss, especially after waiting nearly ten years to see how it ends.
