10 Specter/Albino Antagonist

No More Monkey BusinessBest Astro Bot Bosses, Ranked

LocationApes On The Loose, Gorilla Nebula
Fight HighlightPredicting his movements to catch him with the Time Net
RewardMothership Part: Memory

If you’re familiar with the iconic 1999 game “Ape Escape” for the original PlayStation, you might recognize this guest boss character: Specter, who is referred to as the Albino Antagonist after he’s been captured within the game.

In this battle, it’s quick and straightforward, as he unleashes a few groups of minions for me to handle first. Just when I manage to whip out my explosive device, he plummets from his floating perch. After landing, he darts about the arena, mocking me with every turn – but eventually, I snare him in my Time Net!

This battle resembles the playstyle from the initial Ape Escape game, and after defeating him, you can return him to the Crash Site, where he will join Spike and the numerous Apes you’ve caught in the northern region.

9 Nidhög

So Long, Giant Pig!Best Astro Bot Bosses, Ranked

LocationBot of War, Tentacle System
Fight HighlightUsing your godly might to throw him off the arena
RewardMothership Part: SSD

In one of the most memorable guest appearances in recent times, the legendary figure from God of War is introduced, complete with a dedicated level and power-up boost. At the outset of Son of War, you run into father-son duo Kratos and Atreus, who are camped before a colossal stone entrance.

The gruff bot gives you his Leviathan Axe, and you get to play with his powers for this level, swinging the mighty axe and freezing your enemies with a powerful throw. Of course, don’t forget to collect all seven ravens!

Upon scaling the icy body of water, you find yourself face to face with an unusually dragon-like creature named Nidhög, who seems to bear no resemblance to traditional Norse dragons. As soon as Kratos stirs him using his Leviathan Axe, Nidhög awakens with a fury and rushes towards you in a fit of rage.

In this battle, you’re essentially controlling a matador, dodging his attacks and smashing the metal shields on his hindquarters. Over time, these actions reveal a lengthy cable which you can grab and toss him around with.

Listen to the tunes from the soundtrack of “God of War: Ragnarok,” as they harmonize with the extraordinary abilities Astro showcases upon experiencing Kratos’ divine strength.

8 Mecha Leon

Bot Got Your Tongue? Best Astro Bot Bosses, Ranked

LocationCamo Cosmos
Fight HighlightJumping across buzzsaws in stopped time
RewardVoracious Blob (Tupley); Going Loco

Our first entry about a main boss fight is Mecha Leon, and you fight him in a dense rainforest equipped with the Slo-Mo Watch.

Although this seemingly formidable, fire-spitting, rocket-shooting chameon may appear intimidating, it’s actually quite manageable due to your ability to manipulate time, making it more of a comedic rather than challenging boss fight.

Among the main story battles, Mecha Leon’s encounter appears less varied compared to the others, despite being an entertaining battle.

In contrast to battles with characters such as Lady Venomara and Wako Tako, which unfold in expansive settings giving an impression of continuous advancement across the world, Mecha Leon’s confrontation is set exclusively within a forest. While this isn’t inherently poor, it lacks the dramatic moments typically associated with boss fights, which puts him towards the bottom of the list.

7 Chief Cawah

Run For Your Life, Drake!Best Astro Bot Bosses, Ranked

LocationDude Raiding, Serpent Starway
Fight HighlightThe entire escape sequence
RewardMothership Part: GPU

Rather than the typical boss battle on a platform, you’ll find yourself being pursued by Chief Cawah who unleashes deadly beams and hurls flying skulls at you.

The primary objective in this scenario is to destroy incoming projectiles and dodge his powerful lasers, while navigating a rope to ascend and descend within an old temple, making sure to evade any disintegration threats along the way.

The battle concludes once you manage to flee, find and shoot the sorcerer’s crest, resulting in the doorway collapsing onto him.

Featuring shifting camera perspectives and a reworked version of Nathan Drake’s iconic tune, this cinematic moment delivers a heart-pounding thrill reminiscent of the Uncharted series.

6 Blunderjaw

Big Game Hunting Best Astro Bot Bosses, Ranked

LocationMachine Learning, Feather Cluster
Fight HighlightLanding a headshot while high up in the air
RewardMothership Part: Cooling Fan

The upcoming boss battle on our list is the most cinematic experience among the bonus levels. Following the acquisition of Aloy’s bow from Horizon Zero Dawn, you engage in combat with the Blunderjaw – a tribute to one of the game’s most recognizable machines, the Thunderjaw.

In this scenario, a colossal, intimidating robot T-Rex pursues you while you ride a turtle in a crimson ocean, launching salvoes of guided missiles that you must destroy.

To defeat him, you must aim for his luminescent energy sources, causing them to malfunction and make him less stable until he explodes on his own.

Among all the cameo boss battles, this one stands out as the most cinematic and thrilling, given that it involves a relentless foe who never stops pursuing and attacking you. Despite occasional hiccups with motion controls while using Aloy’s bow, the encounter compensates for these issues with its high-octane intensity.

5 Mighty Chewy

No Wonder Everyone Hates The DentistBest Astro Bot Bosses, Ranked

LocationGorilla Nebula
Fight HighlightCrashing through glass windows
RewardMonkey Stalker (Spike); Apes on the Loose

As a die-hard fan, I find myself squaring off against the intimidating Mighty Chewy in a pulsating neon city. With the empowering Bulldog Dash at my disposal, I charge forward, barreling across the battlefield, shattering any obstacles that dare to stand in my path.

This interaction is both enjoyable and thrilling. Before the battle, he tosses iron girders at you, using them as makeshift bridges that collapse crumbling towers, creating a sense of urgency.

During the primary battle, he aims to knock you off the stage using his walls, and you must shatter the glass panes on those walls to evade being knocked out. In response, the boss will summon a bell and employ its area-of-effect (AOE) attacks.

At this stage, you’ve encountered those bell foes previously, thus you’re aware that a dash assault is necessary to collide with them, propelling them onto the gorilla’s head, stupefying him, and exposing his eyes for attack. In other words, it’s time to play rough!

Mighty Chewy is an exceptionally fun boss to face, as his attacks keep you engaged, and dealing damage to him is satisfying. You land the final blow by knocking his teeth out from the inside, and the city celebrates your heroism.

4 Falcon McFly

What Are You, Chicken?Best Astro Bot Bosses, Ranked

LocationFeather Cluster
Fight HighlightWhen he panics as you’re approaching his head
RewardMachine Hunter; Machine Learning level

Kicking off the boss battle is quite amusing – you employ the Samurai Roll skill to catapult yourself into a cannonball, colliding squarely with the giant avian adversary while airborne.

In this rephrased version, here’s how you might express the scenario: You engage Falcon McFly in combat on his stomach, as he flies through a vast canyon. By employing the Samurai Roll technique, you manage to deflect his drill-beak and ammunition barrage attacks. Then, you remove the covers from his turbines and strike him on the head.

After striking him twice on the head, Falcon McFly’s helmet shatters, revealing a substantial bump on his skull. Multiple forceful blows eventually lead to his downfall.

In Astro Bot, this particular boss battle stands out as the most amusing one we’ve encountered due to the game’s embracement of its absurdity with its whimsical art style. The contrast between these formidable enemies and their comical responses to being struck is reminiscent of classic Looney Tunes comedy.

3 Wako Tako

This Is Nothing Like Punch Out!!Best Astro Bot Bosses, Ranked

LocationTentacle System
Fight HighlightsSwinging over giant waves at his final stand
RewardDad of Boy (Kratos); Boy (Atreus); Bot of War

Currently, we’ve reached the final three battles, and Wako Tako comes in at number three. This formidable octopus stands out with its four tentacles equipped like boxing gloves, ready to deliver some powerful blows.

In simpler terms, the octopus leader is daring you to have a boxing contest, and since you’re wearing Frog Punch gloves, it turns out to be a balanced battle.

In Wako Tako’s boss battle, the dynamics keep you on your toes and stimulate quick decision-making. The advancement is rewarding – every damage stage subtly suggests a method to disarm him, such as blocking his punches or trapping them in his sticky substance. Each blow against this opponent causes a resounding bell chime, causing him to be hurled far away.

The creativity of this boss fight’s level design is brilliant. To deal some real damage to him, you’d have to slingshot yourself into his face, first with his suction cups, and then his tears.

In his last defiant act, he might have overlooked an amusing detail: upon spraying a barrage of sea urchins during his final stand, he leaned in for a better view (knowing it could harm his eyes). This could be due to the fact that you had removed his corrective goggles.

2 Lady Venomara

Her Breath is Corrosively FoulBest Astro Bot Bosses, Ranked

LocationSerpent Starway
Fight HighlightRunning on her slithering body as she’s escaping
RewardRaider Dude (Nathan Drake); Dude Raiding

In the next significant battle, you’ll encounter the serpentine boss, Lady Venomara. This battle requires you to employ the Chicken Boost skill, which allows you to land powerful uppercuts on her ornamented jaw.

She’s quite formidable as a boss, with a breath that could potentially dissolve stone pillars.

To evade her tail assault, perfect timing is essential. She’s confident and persistent, yet when pushed to her final moment, her overconfidence fades, and she attempts to flee from you instead.

As a gamer, I find myself on edge when the battlefield suddenly expands from a tight arena into an intense chase scene. It’s clear that the boss is running out of options and throwing everything she’s got at me, demonstrating her growing desperation in this high-stakes fight.

1 Space Bully Nebulax

The Grand Finale Best Astro Bot Bosses, Ranked

LocationDeja Vu Dimension (note: only appears after you beat the game)
Fight HighlightThe ability wheel
RewardMothership Part: CPU Kid; Credits Clash level (Congratulations, you beat the game!)

Following the pursuit of Space Bully Nebulax with your robot companions in Play Squadron Go!, he feigns surrender (an act that violates Geneva Convention rules) and engages you in combat atop the PS5 Mothership. This leads up to a climactic effort on his part to rescue CPU Kid.

This fight has three phases, each giving you an ability and unique mechanic to fight against. In each damage phase, he jealously guards the CPU’s cage, which you’ll have to pry out of his hands.

At times, if you happen to hit a specific section of the wheel, it results in him sending a horde of his minions towards you.

As a gamer, conquering the Space Bully battle feels like squaring off against a unique, eccentric foe. After vanquishing each preceding boss, I’m treated to a brief cutscene where Nebulax torments and terrifies CPU Kid. This fuels my determination to serve him a dose of his own bullying tactics.
