Marathon Update Resolves Strange Preordering Issue

After a challenging development process marked by company changes and setbacks, Marathon is now available for preorder. Fans quickly spotted a connection to Bungie’s other popular game, Destiny 2. Though officially announced in 2023, the game faced delays, but is now nearing release, promising a fresh experience for dedicated Bungie players.

After a long wait, Marathon showed off some gameplay and held an early test last year, but the response wasn’t as enthusiastic as the developers had hoped. Based on player feedback, Bungie decided to postpone the game’s release beyond 2025 to refine key elements like AI, combat, graphics, and how players interact with each other. They also had to address concerns about copied artwork, which further damaged public opinion. Now, after taking time to improve the game and resolve the art issue, Marathon is expected to launch very soon.

Marathon Update Fixes Destiny 2 Installation Issue

This week, Bungie announced the official release date for Marathon and detailed the special editions available. They also opened preorders for the game, but some Steam users experienced a glitch: Destiny 2 unexpectedly started downloading and installing. Since Marathon and Destiny 2 are different games, this automatic installation confused many players.

When a problem occurred with the installation of the game Marathon, some people jokingly suggested it was a publicity stunt by Bungie to boost player numbers for Destiny 2, or that it was intentional. However, Bungie quickly explained it was simply a bug. The official Marathon Dev Team announced a fix had been released, resolving the installation issue for those who preordered. The update also corrected an error that prevented owners of the Collector’s Edition from activating their game code on Steam.

Despite a rocky start and delays, the game Marathon is building excitement as its March release date nears. The recent showcase highlighted significant improvements over the 2025 preview, including expanded content, popular features like proximity chat, and enhanced graphics. The game boasts a strong voice cast, featuring well-known actors such as Roger Clark, Dave Fennoy, Jennifer English, and Ben Starr. To help players decide if it’s right for them, Bungie is offering an Open Preview weekend before March 5th, giving everyone a chance to try it out before purchase.

Although interest in Marathon is growing, many Destiny 2 players are concerned about the game’s future. While the recent Renegades expansion was popular, there’s uncertainty about what’s next, especially after reports that the next major Destiny 2 update was postponed to prioritize Marathon. Bungie hasn’t confirmed these reports, leaving players unsure when to expect the Shadow and Order update, which was originally planned for March 3rd – just before Marathon’s release. Adding to these concerns, there’s currently no announced plan for Destiny 2 in 2026, leading some to worry that development is slowing down as Bungie focuses on the launch of Marathon.
