This New Action Anime Has Major Solo Leveling Vibes

The season two finale of Solo Leveling in March 2025 was a huge disappointment for many fans. While some have been re-reading the original web novel and manhwa, lots of viewers really miss watching the exciting anime adaptation by A-1 Pictures, and are looking for something to watch while they wait to see if a third season will be made. Although nothing quite compares to Solo Leveling, a new series is quickly gaining popularity online because of its similar action and fantasy elements.

Based on the light novel series by Itsuki Togami and Yuri Kisaragi, Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None is a new fantasy anime that combines the excitement of RPGs with compelling characters and a recognizable world. Despite its potential, it hasn’t gotten much attention this season, as popular shows like Sentenced to Be a Hero and the latest season of Jujutsu Kaisen are dominating the conversation.

I’ve been seeing a lot of comparisons between Orhun Dula from this new series and Sung Jin-Woo from Solo Leveling, and honestly, it’s the differences that really grabbed me. I was worried it would just be another story of someone going from zero to hero, hitting all the same old beats, but this show quickly proved me wrong! It’s got a lot more depth than it initially lets on – I was hooked after just a few episodes. In Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None, we follow Orhun, a member of the famous Hero’s Party, as they explore treacherous dungeons. Orhun used to be a fighter, but he’s decided to learn enchantment so he can better support his team in battle.

Orhun was unexpectedly kicked out of the Hero’s Party when his companions decided his skills were just… okay. They considered him good at many things, but not exceptional at any. Now on his own, Orhun starts training as a swordsman again, and quickly proves he’s far from helpless. Surprisingly, his average abilities turn out to be a hidden strength, allowing him to learn new skills quickly on his journeys. His old teammates eventually realize Orhun might have been the most clever of them all, but they figure it out too late.

In the world of Solo Leveling, Orhun isn’t a weak character, but his teammates drastically underestimate him. He’s suddenly kicked out of their group—despite everything he’s done for them—which is a painful betrayal they later regret. Though the main character, Sung Jin-Woo, doesn’t appear motivated by revenge, his ultimate goals are still a mystery.

After being kicked out of the Hero’s Party, Orhun temporarily agrees to train the new adventurers on a competing team, the Night Sky Silver Rabbits. Luna, a former teammate, tries to convince him to come back, but he’s hesitant. The situation gets complicated when it’s revealed that Orhun didn’t leave the Hero’s Party on his own terms.

Although Solo Leveling is known for its intense action and darker themes, Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None offers a more lighthearted story, though it can get serious at times. In Solo Leveling, Sung Jin-Woo gradually becomes incredibly powerful, almost to a comical degree. Meanwhile, Orhun focuses on mastering a variety of skills, even developing spells that surpass those of other enchanters. Orhun’s power comes not just from strength, but also from his intelligence and ability to assess situations. Despite their differences, both characters share a similar spirit, consistently proving their doubters wrong. Interestingly, they also have some physical similarities.

Fans Wonder Where This Classic Fantasy Series Will Go

The Character Drama Makes Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None Shine

Orhun is a relatable character, and his connections with others feel genuine. Many viewers will connect with his experience of a friendship suddenly falling apart, and his desire to succeed despite feeling inadequate. Instead of letting his frustrations get the better of him, Orhun uses them to improve himself and find supportive relationships after taking time to reflect. Audiences will find themselves invested not only in Orhun’s journey, but also in the people around him, hoping they’ll accept him—flaws and all.

The anime Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None is the first project from new studio Animation Studio 42, who are also developing The Frontier Lord Begins with Zero Subjects. While a new studio might raise some questions, the series is directed by Hiroyuki Kanbe, a veteran known for his work on popular anime like My Hero Academia, Yu Yu Hakusho, Wolf’s Rain, and Erased. He also contributed animation to classics like Cowboy Bebop: The Movie and Afro Samurai: Resurrection.

Although Jack-of-All-Trades, Party of None shares some elements with the popular anime Solo Leveling, another new series, Tomb Raider King, is a much more obvious copy. Based on a South Korean web novel, Tomb Raider King is scheduled for release in July 2026 and tells the story of Seo Joo-Heon, a remarkably strong character who travels back in time to avenge those who wronged him.
