Krafton Signs Agreement With Pockerpair to Bring Palworld to Mobile

As a seasoned gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and skepticism about Krafton’s decision to bring Palworld to mobile. On one hand, Palworld on PC and Xbox garnered an impressive following of 25 million players, reaching the third-highest number of concurrent users on Steam ever. However, its launch was met with backlash due to its striking resemblance to Pokemon, which has left a bitter taste in the mouths of many long-time fans.

Krafton has singed an agreement with Palworld developers Pockerpair to bring Palworld to mobile.

According to an official statement from Krafton, they have secured a license for the ‘Palworld’ intellectual property.

According to the statement, Krafton is planning to bring their Palworld IP to mobile devices through this contract. They aim to preserve and adapt the key enjoyable aspects from the original game for the mobile platform. The mobile version will be developed by the team behind PUBG STUDIOS, a creative studio owned by Krafton.

In a short period after launching on PC and Xbox, the game Palworld drew in approximately 25 million players, achieving one of the top three most simultaneous user counts on Steam ever recorded. Then, in September, it was introduced to the PlayStation 5.

Last month, it was revealed that Nintendo will be pursuing legal action over Palworld for patent infringement, to which Pocketpair replied that, “we will do our utmost for our fans, and to ensure that indie game developers are not hindered or discouraged from pursuing their creative ideas.”

Although it achieved notable success, the game faced criticism from the community upon launch because of its striking resemblance to Pokémon. Many Pokémon enthusiasts compared screenshots and assets available online, accusing Pocketpair of plagiarism. This debate has persisted without resolution.
