Few predicted that Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End would become as popular as it has. Since its debut in 2023, the series has become a global hit, and its popularity continues to rise, boosted by the recent release of its second anime season.

I’ve been following this series for a while now, and it’s amazing to see how much it’s blown up in both anime and manga! Things were going great with the manga sales, but a new series just dropped and actually outsold it for the first week. It’s Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo from Weekly Shonen Jump, and its first volume did incredibly well – better than the newest Frieren volume! That’s seriously impressive for a brand new title. Still, I have a feeling Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End will climb back on top soon, especially now that the new anime season is here. I’m excited to see how it all plays out!

I watched as Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End really took off in 2023 with the debut of its anime adaptation. The first season ran for an impressive 28 episodes, wrapping up in 2024. There was a lot of anticipation after that, and fans finally got what they wanted in 2026 – a second season! It’s back on TV now, and so far, it’s been a huge hit, as expected.

It’s no surprise that the popular anime adaptation of Frieren has led to incredible manga sales. Anime adaptations often serve as advertising for the source material, expanding its reach and boosting numbers. Frieren has been a massive success in that regard, becoming a leading title for Shogakukan Magazine and consistently topping sales charts for the past few years. As the sequel to Jujutsu Kaisen by Gege Akutami, Modulo launched its first volume in January, and the results have been striking. Just last week, JJK Modulo outsold Frieren, which is a significant achievement for a new series that has only released one volume.

Interestingly, Frieren wasn’t the top-selling manga this week. It came in fifth place, surpassed by Kagurabachi and two other titles from Weekly Shonen Jump: Dandadan and Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc. It’s worth noting that all four manga ahead of Frieren had recently released new volumes, while Frieren didn’t have a new release that week.

Generally, Frieren’s sales have been stronger than Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo’s. Frieren’s newest volume has already sold over 500,000 copies. While it’s too soon to know the final numbers for Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, early indications are promising.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Is Impressive, But Frieren Is Currently on Hiatus

It’s really remarkable how well Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo has sold since its first volume came out. It’s quickly become one of the best-selling new manga in Weekly Shonen Jump, with sales figures that are unusually high for a newcomer.

It’s important to remember that Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo builds on the success of the popular manga Jujutsu Kaisen, giving it a strong starting point. Although Modulo briefly outsold Frieren week to week, Frieren remains far more popular overall. Frieren is consistently one of the best-selling manga in Japan, and it’s expected to stay that way for the foreseeable future.

The newest volume of the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End manga was released surprisingly early on December 18, 2026 – over a month ago now. Despite this longer time since release, it remains in fifth place in sales, which really shows how popular the series still is.

I’m a huge fan of Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, and it’s a little worrying that the manga is currently on hiatus. Both of the creators are dealing with some health problems, which means another break. We don’t know when they’ll be back, and honestly, it’s a bit concerning because the anime is starting to move ahead of the manga! It’s a fantastic series, so I’m really hoping they get better soon and can continue the story.

Frieren Could be The Highest Selling Manga Again Due To Season 2

As the anime progresses, sales of the Frieren manga are expected to increase significantly, potentially pushing it higher up the best-selling charts within the next week or so. Frieren and Jujutsu Kaisen are both predicted to be top sellers thanks to their new anime seasons.

I’ve been watching Frieren’s rise, and it’s incredible. Just after the first episode of its second season aired, it shot straight to the top of MyAnimeList, becoming the highest-rated anime of all time – even beating out the score of its own first season! It seems like nothing can top Frieren, and I expect the manga will stay incredibly popular too, even with strong competition from series like Jujutsu Kaisen.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s sequel, called Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, runs in the Weekly Shonen Jump Magazine. The series is set 68 years into the future, after the events of Shinjuku Showdown. The main characters of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo are Yuka and Tsurugi Okkotsu, the grandchildren of Yuta and Maki. Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo Chapter 19 will be released on January 25, 2026.
