How to Catch Fish in Hytale
In Hytale, you primarily catch fish by using fishing traps. These are items you can craft and place on any water surface. After a short wait, the trap will activate and catch fish, treasure, shells, and other underwater items. Fishing traps are also the only source of Salt Blocks in the game.
Each fishing trap can only hold one item at a time. You’ll need to empty it by hand to use it again.
You can put Fish Bait in Fishing Traps to make them work better. The bait attracts fish, so you’re more likely to catch one instead of other items, and it also makes the trap activate much faster. Without bait, a trap takes 20 to 40 minutes to work, but with bait, it only takes about 5 to 10 minutes.
Fishing traps are not consumed upon use and are considered reusable items.
Both Fishing Traps and Fish Bait can be crafted at a Tier 2 Farmer’s Workbench in Hytale.

So, as of right now, there’s no actual fishing minigame in Hytale. It’s a bummer, I know! But the devs have hinted that they’re planning to add one in a future update, which I’m really excited about!
In Hytale, players can hunt and kill fish using weapons. However, this only gives you Raw Fish – you can’t actually obtain the fish as an item. There’s no way to catch fish by hand or with a fishing rod.
How to Use Fish in Hytale
In Hytale, you can turn any fish into Raw Fish using a Chef’s Stove. The amount of Raw Fish you get varies based on how rare the fish is – rarer fish produce more!

You can cook raw fish at a Campfire using fuel to make Grilled Fish. Grilled Fish is a food item that restores health.
