Project Rene, the next iteration of The Sims, has been in the works since at least 2022. Since announcing the project in October of that year, the developers at Maxis have held several private playtests, giving players a sneak peek at how the game works. Despite the tests being exclusive and under non-disclosure agreements, information has consistently leaked online, as often happens with fan-accessible projects. Because of this, screenshots and details from almost every Project Rene playtest have appeared online since the game was first announced.
