XRP Architect Speaks out on BTC Creator Satoshi Nakamoto

As a researcher with over two decades of experience in the tech industry, I have followed the Bitcoin saga closely since its inception. The latest HBO documentary, “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Mystery,” adds another intriguing chapter to this ongoing enigma.

During a current conversation pertaining to X (previously known as Twitter), David Schwartz, Ripple‘s Chief Technology Officer and a significant designer of the XRP Ledger, clarified persistent rumors linking him to the enigmatic inventor of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.

A recently released HBO documentary on the roots of Bitcoin proposes that the enigmatic inventor of Bitcoin, known as Satoshi Nakamoto, might actually be Peter Todd, a Canadian software engineer.

In my latest research endeavor, I delved into the enigma of Bitcoin, titled “Money Electric: The Bitcoin Enigma,” which was recently released. This comprehensive 100-minute video features interviews with individuals who have been immersed in Bitcoin since its inception, such as Adam Back, a long-standing contender for Satoshi’s identity, Roger Ver, an early investor, Samson Mow and Peter Todd.

Not really. I didn’t get involved until mid-2011.

Regarding the HBO documentary, a user questioned Schwartz directly: “Weren’t you acquainted with and worked alongside all these people who were instrumental in creating Bitcoin, David? It seems you were left out of this documentary.” The user was referring to the key figures involved in Bitcoin’s development. Schwartz replied, “Not exactly, I didn’t start getting involved until mid-2011.

In 2020, rumors arose suggesting Schwartz could be Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of Bitcoin. However, he made it clear that while it was possible he was associated with the creation, he himself was not.

According to the Chief Technology Officer of Ripple, he might have been part of the team known as “Satoshi” – the creators of Bitcoin. He further stated that he became aware of Bitcoin, the world’s initial digital currency, only in the year 2011.

Satoshi remains unknown

The whitepaper explaining Bitcoin was released in 2008, and the Bitcoin network went live in 2009.

Ever since Bitcoin was first introduced in January 2009, there’s been much debate surrounding the identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, whether it’s an individual or a collective. Over time, numerous articles have hinted that Satoshi Nakamoto might be any number of people.

As a researcher delving into the realm of cryptocurrency, I can’t help but recognize the enduring significance of the elusive figure known as Satoshi Nakamoto, despite his absence since 2011. The staggering wealth associated with this enigmatic individual is evident in the fact that the wallets attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto hold approximately one million Bitcoins. At current market prices, this equates to an astounding value of over $62.4 billion. This underscores the profound impact Satoshi Nakamoto has had on the world of digital currency and its financial landscape.

In the creation of the HBO documentary, Cullen Hoback speculated that Peter Todd could be the person behind Satoshi Nakamoto, due to hints found in posts from a bitcoin forum at the start; however, it’s important to note that Peter Todd himself has stated he is not Satoshi Nakamoto.
