FF7 Remake Type-0 Behemoth Boss Guide

The Type-0 Behemoth fight in Final Fantasy 7 Remake is an optional battle you can take on through the ‘Subterranean Menace’ side quest in Chapter 14, and many players find it quite fun. If you’re having trouble with this FF7 Remake side quest, this guide will help you overcome the challenge.

Rescuing people trapped in the Sector 7 Slums is proving difficult because of an underground lab filled with monsters. Cloud and his team need to focus on one monster in particular. Here’s a guide on how to start and defeat the Type-0 Behemoth.

FF7 Remake Subterranean Menace: How to Start the Side Quest

Begin this quest by talking to Wymer in Evergreen Park, Section 6 Undercity. After learning about the problem, go down into the underground area using the entrance nearby. Your destination is the Underground Lab – B5, which you’ll reach by following the main path until you find a ladder leading to the Underground Test Site.

As I was playing, I started hearing this really creepy growl in the distance, and it let me know I was heading in the right direction! There were a bunch of smaller enemies along the way, but I quickly figured out the best way to take them down. Turns out, ice attacks work great on those hounds and Ringmaws, lightning is super effective against Sweepers, and wind is the way to go with the Mark II Monodrives. It made the battles much easier!

As you leave the boss arena, the growling sound will become much more noticeable. You’ll see a partially open door blocked by yellow tape – you walked by it earlier as Barret. Go through the door to begin the fight with the Type-0 Behemoth.

How to Beat the Type-0 Behemoth in Final Fantasy 7 Remake

The most crucial thing to remember when fighting a Type-0 Behemoth is that it can’t be hurt by magic as long as its horns are still there. Trying to use magic will actually make it attack with a stronger move called ‘Counter Flare’. Because this beast moves so fast, switch between your characters frequently, but prioritize using Barret – his long-range physical attacks are the most effective.

For this battle, it’s a good idea to have one of your characters equipped with the Steal Materia. You can use it to steal an Enchanted Ring from the Behemoth, and this ring will make helpful status effects last longer.

Concentrate your attacks on either the enemy’s upper body or lower body. Once one area is heavily damaged, switch your focus to the other side to make it stumble. The ATB Stagger Materia can be helpful during these openings. However, once the enemy is staggered, everyone in your party should prioritize breaking off its horns. While not required to win, destroying the horns allows you to safely use magic attacks from a distance.

If you only manage to disable half of the monster, it can still attack with its remaining body parts. Be careful of attacks like body slams or tail whips as you target the other side.

Okay, so fighting the Behemoth is tough! When it’s not stunned or staggered, just trying to survive is a good strategy. I always make sure my team is loaded with healing magic and Materia that boost HP and MP – seriously, stock up! Barret’s Barrier ability is a lifesaver too. You really need to be prepared for its ‘Maximum Fury’ attack – it charges right at you! And watch out for ‘Rampage’ – when it glows red, get ready for a huge area-of-effect blast, because after that, you can’t hurt it for a while. Oh, and one more thing: when you get it down to low health, rocks start falling from the ceiling, so dodging becomes super important!

Okay, so here’s the deal with this boss: once you stop staggering it, it completely heals both its upper and lower parts with something called ‘Revitalize.’ That means you have to start attacking again and again! It’s way easier if you can break off its horns first, but you’ll just keep repeating the stagger-and-damage cycle until you finally take it down.

Once you win, you’ll receive either the Wrecking Ball weapon for Barret or the Manuscript: Sharpshooter’s Companion Vol. X if you beat the monster on Hard mode. You’ll also get the Behemoth Horn, an item needed to finish the ‘Secret Medicine’ side quest.
