Global Data Ecosystem Conference Highlights The Digital Economy
2021 marks the fourth iteration of the annual Global Data Ecosystem Conference, which is jointly hosted by Yicai and two other organizations: the Shanghai Data Service Provider Association and the Shanghai Data Group. The Shanghai Data Bureau and the Pudong district also lend their support to this conference.

It’s the first ‘rights organization’ for data companies in China that aims to create a community and promote growth in the industry.

These partnerships, involving groups such as the International Data Spaces Association, the Hong Kong Chamber of Data and Digital Commerce, and SG Tech, have established a continuous collaboration and information-sharing system. The goal of this alliance is to bolster local businesses while facilitating their expansion on a global scale.
In the course of their talks, everyone concurred that Shanghai should carry on with its commitment to data transparency, expand data facilities, and boost a top-notch digital commercial ecosystem.
As a researcher focusing on urban digital development, I envision us fostering Shanghai’s future by enhancing the openness and dissemination of public data, stimulating innovative applications and utilization of this data. We aim to create an outstanding digital business ecosystem, which in turn will propel the construction of international-standard data centers. Last year, our city’s digital economy surpassed CNY600 billion (USD 84.5 billion), underscoring its immense potential for growth and development.

As stated by Shen Zhulin, deputy head of the National Data Administration, Shanghai has the potential to lead the way in the cutting-edge tech sector. Moreover, he mentioned that Shanghai is among the chosen areas designated to conduct trials aimed at lowering transaction costs and facilitating smoother data circulation, all while ensuring a secure, regulated, and organized data flow.
