I recently played Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse, and it’s a really cool visual novel by Square Enix. Basically, you’re thrown into a mystery and have to piece everything together. It’s not just reading, though – there are puzzles you need to solve. You’ll be digging through files, really focusing on what characters say, and paying attention to even the smallest details to figure out what to do next. It’s a lot more interactive than a lot of visual novels I’ve played!
In the chapter ‘Treasure Hunt – Part 1,’ featuring Arnav Barnum, there’s a scene where the characters examine the clues they’ve collected up to that point.
One of the items you’ll find is a treasure map that once belonged to Avi’s grandmother. Legend says it leads to treasure hidden by mermaids! The map doesn’t have a traditional ‘X’ to show where the treasure is, so you’ll have to figure it out yourself – which can be tricky. This guide will help you solve the mystery!
Solving the Treasure Map Riddle in Paranormasight: The Mermaid’s Curse
In the first part of the Treasure Hunt, Avi and Circe need to use an old map to figure out where the treasure is hidden.
Let’s start by looking at the map itself. It has several dots on the reverse side – you can see them if you flip it over – and a mysterious message on the front that says, “search the 95th.”
As you consider this, some of the answer can actually be found in Avi’s earlier chapter, Discovering the Mermaids of Ise Bay. It discusses stars and a particular star pattern called the Summer Triangle – which, by the way, is a real constellation you can easily look up online.
You don’t need to go back and play that part again. Just review the information about it in the Files menu to remember what happened. You’ll then realize the three stars that make up the Summer Triangle constellation look just like the dots on the back of the map!
After speaking with Circe, you’ll discover that “search the 95th” means you need to find a specific story within the Ise files. Open the menu and go to Files, then select The Tales of Ise. Scroll down to Episode 95, Hikoboshi and read it. This is a love story where a man expresses his feelings using Hikoboshi – which is actually another name for the star Altair, part of the Summer Triangle constellation.
Now, let’s look at the map again. You can move Avi’s arms to point the map towards the light – the bright spot on the ceiling. This will allow you to see the hidden dots on the back of the map through the front!
Simply tap the dot at the bottom of the map – that’s where Hikoboshi is. When the game asks for the location’s name, type ‘Hikoboshi’. That’s it! You’ve marked the treasure on Avi’s map and can continue with the story.
