As a seasoned analyst with over two decades of experience in the tech and financial industries, I find myself often amused by the theatrics that occasionally unfold within the crypto space. The latest antics of Craig Wright, who continues to stir controversy, are no exception.
David Schwartz, the Chief Technology Officer at Ripple, has lately responded to a debate initiated by the self-proclaimed Satoshi Craig Wright in a recent Reddit post.
As a researcher looking back on events, I find myself grappling with the ongoing legal disputes that have surrounded Craig Wright since his public claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto in 2016. These controversies have been further fueled by lawsuits involving intellectual property rights over the Bitcoin whitepaper and its underlying code.
In a recent development, the individual once debunked as Satoshi Nakamoto in a UK High Court ruling, namely Craig Wright, has launched another lawsuit. This time, his target is the developers of Bitcoin Core, demanding an astounding 9.11 trillion pounds. He argues that these developers misled people by presenting Bitcoin (BTC) as the original Bitcoin, while he firmly believes that Bitcoin SV (BSV) is the authentic version of Bitcoin.
Ever since the filing of this claim, Wright has been under scrutiny, using social media to present his arguments across multiple posts.
Ripple CTO reacts to Craig Wright’s argument
In the most recent interaction X, Wright put forward an argument in suing a partnership. In an X post, Wright wrote “when a partnership is sued, and only one partner steps forward to respond while the others sit back in silence, the situation becomes a textbook case of irresponsibility and lack of foresight.”
Wright added, “Ordinarily, partnerships without a structure like Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) are subject to joint and several liability. However, BTC Core does not fall into this category.
In simpler terms, Wright explained that each partner is personally responsible for all legal obligations and debts, regardless of whether or not they were involved in a specific issue. When some partners fail to respond, the court won’t pursue them right away; instead, they will concentrate their efforts on the partner who has cooperated.
Wright’s recent remarks, intended to clarify the essence of Bitcoin Core, have sparked interest within the cryptocurrency circle. In response, an X user stated, “Bitcoin Core doesn’t constitute a legally established partnership. Contributing to open-source projects does not automatically make one a partner in that partnership.
David Schwartz, Ripple CTO, responded to Wright’s points, stating: “Your argument could be somewhat convincing if it aimed at all Bitcoin owners. In this case, you could argue that the token serves as shares of the partnership, and revenue is distributed proportionally based on token ownership. However, even this interpretation seems quite far-fetched.
