A LEGO enthusiast has designed a remarkably detailed SpongeBob SquarePants model and submitted it to LEGO Ideas. The LEGO Ideas program allows talented builders to potentially have their designs turned into official LEGO sets if they receive 10,000 votes from other fans, and many believe this SpongeBob creation has a strong chance of reaching that goal.
SpongeBob SquarePants is a hugely popular cartoon, so it’s no surprise it’s been made into LEGO sets. From 2006 to 2012, Nickelodeon and LEGO teamed up to create sets based on the show’s underwater world, Bikini Bottom. Fans could collect sets of famous locations like the Krusty Krab, SpongeBob’s pineapple house, and even the Chum Bucket. Although LEGO doesn’t currently make official SpongeBob sets anymore, dedicated fans continue to build and share their own amazing creations.
LEGO Ideas SpongeBob SquarePants Model Concept
LEGO enthusiast vixtop recently shared their impressive SpongeBob SquarePants creation with the LEGO Ideas community. The model, titled “SpongeBob SquarePants – Display Model,” perfectly captures the character’s energetic personality and recognizable form. Vixtop used a variety of LEGO bricks to create SpongeBob’s signature buck teeth and large eyes, as well as his square pants, striped socks, and black shoes. The build goes beyond just replicating SpongeBob’s appearance, including fun extras like a Krusty Krab cooking cap, a Krabby Patty, and a spatula. An alternate arm piece is also included, allowing SpongeBob to hold the spatula.

This SpongeBob LEGO model is currently just a design idea, shared online as a digital preview by its creator, vixtop. The impressive render shows what the finished model could look like, and it would be made of 1,221 pieces, including accessories. The LEGO Ideas page states the model would be about 10.2 inches tall, growing to 15.8 inches with the hat. The design has already gained over 2,100 supporters, and many LEGO fans are excited about its potential. If you’d like to support the project, you can visit vixtop’s LEGO Ideas page to learn more and show your support. The creator also shares the challenges of turning the 2D cartoon character into a 3D LEGO build.
The LEGO Ideas project for a SpongeBob SquarePants display model is gaining a lot of attention, not just on the platform itself, but also on Reddit. The Reddit post has received over 9,500 upvotes, with many commenters praising the design. Several fans noted its similarity to the 2006 “Build-A-Bob” set, but appreciated the increased detail and accuracy to SpongeBob’s cartoon appearance. One user, vixtop, even mentioned they’re planning to buy the bricks needed to build the model for themselves.
The LEGO Ideas program lets talented builders like vixtop share their creations and potentially earn money. Recently, a fan designed a LEGO toaster that actually looked like it was toasting bread – a clever design that even won an award at the Atlanta BrickCon convention.
More Official LEGO Products Are Coming Soon
We’re excited to see what new LEGO Ideas sets builders create in the future! But LEGO has plenty planned for 2026 already. Keep an eye out for Pokémon sets on February 27th, and sets based on Star Wars, Batman, and other favorites arriving in March. While it’s unclear if we’ll see another official SpongeBob SquarePants LEGO set, there will be lots of other exciting releases to enjoy.
