Hunter X Hunter Makes An Official Return With New Animation

Animated Video Features Iconic Characters and Arcs from the Story

The popular anime series Hunter x Hunter recently made a short comeback. It’s been adapted into anime twice before—once from 1999 to 2001, and again in 2011, which concluded 12 years ago. This is the first new animated content for Hunter x Hunter since then.

A new animated video for Hunter x Hunter was released on February 18, 2016, featuring the main characters – Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio – in some exciting action sequences. The video also gave fans a glimpse of popular supporting characters like Hisoka, Chrollo, and the Phantom Troupe. Even characters who weren’t always central to the story, such as Genthru from the Greed Island arc, made an appearance. It also included a nod to the Chimera Ant arc with Meruem and his Royal Guards. Overall, the video has generated a lot of excitement for the anime’s return. You can find it on YouTube.

Hunter X Hunter Manga Should Return Soon, But The TV Anime Could Take A While

A recent animated video has excited fans about the possibility of a new Hunter X Hunter anime. Unfortunately, there are currently no indications that a return is happening soon. While the 2011 anime series ended, it wasn’t because of a lack of interest. The anime finished adapting the story after Gon found his father because of problems with the manga’s progress. Since the manga has repeatedly paused publication due to creator Yoshihiro Togashi’s health, the anime also had to stop until more of the story was available.

The Hunter x Hunter manga hasn’t been published on a consistent schedule since the end of the Chimera Ant story arc. Even before that, the author, Togashi, was known for taking extended breaks between releases.

  • Hunter x Hunter’s story has progressed very slowly in recent years. For the anime to continue, the current story arc, the Succession War Arc which began in 2012, needs to finish. It looks like it will still be some time before that happens, though the story is moving forward. Author Yoshihiro Togashi is expected to release new chapters around 2026.

Togashi is nearing completion of chapters 411-420, suggesting the Hunter x Hunter manga might resume publication soon. If Togashi continues at this pace, we could see a new Hunter x Hunter anime season within the next few years.
