Okay, so in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, there are three keys – the Thief’s Key, Magic Key, and Ultimate Key – that unlock special chests all over the place. I was getting frustrated trying to find them all and figure out what was inside, so I put together this guide. It’s basically a complete list of every locked chest in the game and what goodies you’ll find inside. Hopefully, it helps you find everything too!

Locked Chests in Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined
Before we look at where the locked chests are, keep in mind that better keys can open chests meant for weaker keys. For example, the Magic Key opens both Magic and Thief chests, and the Ultimate Key opens all chests – Ultimate, Magic, and Thief. Because of this, it’s best to wait until you get the Ultimate Key before going back to areas you’ve already explored, so you can open everything!

Once players obtain the Thief’s Key from the Inn in Pilgrim’s Perdition (Past), they can use it to unlock certain chests.

After you get the Magic Carpet, you can find the Magic Key at Bulgio’s Palace in the L’Arca Region. This key opens special chests, including those that require the Thief’s Key.

The Ultimate Key is located in the Cathedral of Light, specifically on Basement Level 1. It can unlock all chests that require either the Magic Key or the Thief’s Key, in addition to its own special chests.

Hubble Castle and Gracos’s Throne Room Locked Chests
Some chests in the game can’t be opened with keys. This guide explains how to open the locked chest in Hubble Castle. Additionally, there are two locked chests in Sunken Citadel’s Gracos’s Throne Room that require players to talk to Gracos after gaining access to the Cathedral of Blight.
