Key Takeaways

  • ReFantazio offers a fresh experience with unique combat mechanics.
  • Higher levels allow melee combat and teamwork mechanics for easier gameplay.
  • Ranking and overview of party members help players navigate their strengths and personalities.

I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know these intriguing characters from Refantazio, and let me tell you, they’re nothing short of extraordinary!

As a devoted fan, I find ReFantazio absolutely exhilarating! For those who loved Persona, it’s like nothing Studio Zero and Atlus have crafted since Catherine. Although there are similarities, the uniqueness truly shines, particularly in combat. Instead of traditional exploration, players can traverse open spaces or delve into dungeons, triggering turn-based battles when they encounter monsters.

If players have advanced skills in the game “Metaphor: ReFantazio“, they can simply use melee attacks to overpower their opponents. Teammates can also lend a hand in this situation. Interestingly, these teammates possess a diverse range of structures due to the Archetype system, which allows them to switch classes. Regardless of their class, they exhibit numerous valuable traits beyond combat, so let’s evaluate and rank all seven permanent party members in our group.

7 Will

A Powerful Main Character

  • Archetype: Seeker
  • Location: Tradia Desert

In the story titled “Metaphor: ReFantazio,” Will is the central figure, who goes by the name Canon. At first glance, he appears ordinary, but as the plot unfolds, there are surprising developments that make him distinct. Interestingly, characters known as Eldans in this narrative share a resemblance to the Titans from “Attack on Titan,” as they possess the ability to transform into humans using a specific incantation.

In addition, Will was essentially the embodiment of the Prince’s soul, living in his place after being cursed. Upon their reunion, they blend together, similar to the Fusion technique seen in Dragon Ball Z. This gives him a unique and engaging character in an Atlus game, and it’s great that he can speak. However, he doesn’t talk much and primarily serves as a vessel for the player, thus he is ranked last.

6 Basilio

A Little Late To The Party, Literally

  • Archetype: Berserker
  • Location: Altabury Heights

In the course of the game, Basilio’s role undergoes a significant change. Although he is initially presented in the narrative, his status as a party member doesn’t commence until the final month of the game. During this period, he transitions into a Follower.

As a gamer, I’ve noticed that Atlus games, such as Persona, often introduce party members quite late into the game. This leaves players like me with little time to bond with them or even choose to utilize them in combat. However, Basilio stands out as an exceptional character, oozing personality, and it’s hard not to feel for a character who experienced the loss of a brother amidst the heat of battle.

5 Strohl

A Stoic Soldier Hellbent On Change

  • Archetype: Warrior
  • Location: Grand Trad

Strohl becomes the initial comrade of Will following their enlistment in the army. Although he hails from nobility, his family’s home was destroyed and razed to the ground, leaving him without a place to call home. Consequently, he decides to join the knights as a means for seeking vengeance.

Strohl’s character stands out as quite distinct from the usual main characters in Atlus games, who often come off as lazy ladies’ men. Unlike Junpei, Yosuke, and Ryuji from Persona 3, 4, and 5 respectively, Strohl doesn’t have a romantic interest in women, but he does sometimes take things too seriously, which can be a disadvantage for him.

4 Eupha

A Fish Out Of Water

  • Archetype: Summoner
  • Location: Virga Island

Eupha joined the team later on, but she has more time to relax compared to Basilio. She is formally introduced during the Virga Island arc where players must retrieve a sacred artifact to demonstrate their worth in the competition. This mission ultimately leads the team to save Eupha from being sacrificed to a dragon deity.

Among all the dungeons in the game, this one stands out as particularly significant because Eupha’s people’s temple is hidden deep beneath the earth, functioning as a modern-day underground structure. Essentially, it serves as an office building, filled with relics from the past like keyboard notes and bus schedules. This discovery offers a captivating glimpse into Eupha and her people’s lives. While her summoning powers may not be as potent as those in the Final Fantasy series, she remains a formidable figure worth taking seriously.

3 Junah

A Spunky Popstar

  • Archetype: Masked Dancer
  • Location: Port Brilehaven

Junah is a beloved singer, much like the characters in Atlus games such as Rise from “Persona 4.” However, unlike Rise, Junah takes charge and isn’t shy about expressing her thoughts or using her assertive nature to achieve her goals.

As a gamer, I’d say this gal excels at being a spy and is an awesome teammate to have. Her Masked Dancer character stands out because it has the ability to morph into other characters within the game, much like the shape-shifting powers exhibited by the protagonists of recent Persona series.

2 Hulkenberg

Never Gonna Give You Up

Every Party Member In Metaphor: ReFantazio, Ranked
  • Archetype: Knight
  • Location: Grand Trad

In the game’s narrative, Hulkenberg becomes the second permanent character after Grius passes away, joining Will. Interestingly, Hulkenberg was already traveling with Will at the start of the game, unaware that they shared a common objective: rescuing the Prince. It’s amusing to consider this given that Will turned out to be the Prince in a circuitous manner. As for her character, Hulkenberg is a valiant knight who held onto hope that the Prince was still alive despite the circumstances.

Despite harboring some uncertainties, much like any knight might, she never wavered in her journey and continuously refined her abilities to become a true legend.

1 Heismay

Beaten Down, But Not Dead Yet

Every Party Member In Metaphor: ReFantazio, Ranked
  • Archetype: Thief
  • Location: Martira

Among all the party members, none matches Heismay’s relentless spirit. Despite being the shortest and technically the oldest, he is a force to be reckoned with. Initially, adversaries might perceive him as a menacing child abductor, only to be taken aback by this charming little character. Unfairly framed, players can join his quest line to assist in clearing his name.

He’s not just a cool old man with tons of advice and ninja-like experiences to bestow either. He also has a softer side because he lost his son. Unlike Hulkenberg, Heismay did run from his problems. However, with the help of Will, Heismay was able to face up to his truths and become a knight once more not for the church but for the Prince and the hope of a better tomorrow. As far as arcs go, Heismay has the best one by far.
