As a big Resident Evil fan, I was really excited when Capcom first showed off Resident Evil Village. They quickly let us know we’d be facing some totally new enemies. Forget the classic zombies from the original games, or even the creepy monsters from Resident Evil 7 – this time around, it was all about creatures pulled from folklore, like werewolves and vampires. The game features several different types of werewolves, but one of them really stuck out to me as being particularly memorable.
Later in Resident Evil Village, players face a huge, powerful enemy that resembles a traditional werewolf from movies. This creature, called the Varcolac Alfa, is extremely dangerous. The game suggests avoiding a direct fight and running away, which is a good strategy if you want to conserve ammunition.
Some players of Resident Evil Village have wondered if it’s possible to defeat the large beast. The answer is yes! You can kill the Varcolac Alfa werewolf in Resident Evil Village, and here’s how.
Please note that this article will have some MINOR SPOILERS for Resident Evil Village.
Finding and Killing the Varcolac Alfa
Okay, so right after that terrifying escape from the Beneviento house, get ready for another shock! As you head towards Moreau’s area – basically, the reservoir – you’ll run into a Varcolac Alfa, a seriously tough werewolf. This thing is a real bully and will force you to duck into a house for cover. Now, you can take it down right there, but trust me, you’ll need a ton of bullets and it’s way easier if you have a more powerful weapon equipped. Seriously, stock up!
In the eastern part of the village, you can find a grenade launcher by searching near the Water Wheel – it’s marked on your map. Use it to defeat the werewolf! You can also purchase more explosive ammo and learn how to craft it yourself from The Duke.
The Varcolac Alfa is very durable. On the Standard difficulty level, it takes around four high-explosive grenades, five shots from a basic W870 Tac Shotgun, and a few pistol shots to defeat it. Luckily, the nearby houses provide good cover while you’re fighting it. Once defeated, the Varcolac Alfa will turn into crystals and drop a Crystal Beast item that you can sell for a lot of Liras.
When battling werewolves, we highly suggest equipping better weapons, along with a Grenade Launcher and some Mines.
Okay, so I finally unlocked that “Leader of the Pack” trophy in Resident Evil Village, and let me tell you, it’s all about taking down the Varcolac Alfa. Seriously, you absolutely have to defeat that werewolf to get it. It was a tough fight, but finally seeing that trophy pop was a great feeling!
