This post contains spoilers for One Piece.
Roronoa Zoro is one of the most powerful fighters in the Straw Hat Pirates, considered part of the crew’s strongest trio. While naturally gifted, he constantly trains to improve his strength and swordsmanship. This dedication has allowed him to defeat many formidable opponents throughout the One Piece series, with a particularly difficult battle taking place in the samurai land of Wano.
During the Wano Country arc, Zoro battled King, Kaido’s most trusted subordinate. King was the stronger fighter for most of the battle, thanks to his Devil Fruit powers and unique Lunarian abilities. However, Zoro eventually found a weakness to exploit, and with the help of the sword Enma, he turned the tide. Using Enma, Zoro developed a new fighting technique he called ‘King of Hell‘.
Zoro’s King of Hell Uses Conqueror’s Haki
King Of Hell Boosts Zoro’s Attack Power
- Without the King of Hell, Zoro would have never beaten King
- The King of Hell style increases the power of Zoro’s attacks
The ‘King of Hell’ fighting style is inspired by Enma, the ruler of Hell in Japanese mythology – hence the name. This style is powered by Zoro’s Conqueror’s Haki, an ability he didn’t even know he possessed until the Wano Country arc. Previously, Zoro depended solely on his Armament Haki and natural strength. Discovering his Conqueror’s Haki unlocked a significant power boost for him.
I Shall Become the King of Hell.
Zoro usually strengthens his attacks with Armament Haki, but this isn’t enough to hurt incredibly durable opponents like King, Kaido, or Big Mom. To damage them, he needs to combine his attacks with Conqueror’s Haki. Currently, Zoro is still learning to fully control both Enma and his Conqueror’s Haki, preventing him from maintaining his powerful King of Hell form for extended periods. This is a significant weakness when facing enemies who can withstand a lot of damage.
Zoro must perfect his King of Hell technique to defeat tougher enemies and support Luffy’s ambition to become Pirate King. Mastering this skill is also crucial for Zoro to achieve his personal goal of becoming the world’s greatest swordsman.
Zoro’s Rematch With Dracule Mihawk Will Be Legendary
Zoro is determined to become the world’s strongest swordsman, which means he needs to defeat the current champion, Dracule Mihawk. Mihawk previously delivered a crushing defeat to Zoro when the Straw Hat crew visited Baratie. Zoro vowed to a friend, Kuina, that he would become famous, and he believes the best way to honor that promise is by surpassing all other swordsmen. Their first battle ended badly for Zoro, but Mihawk recognized Zoro’s strong will and encouraged him to train and challenge him again once he’d grown stronger.
Their next encounter was strange: Zoro was sent all the way to Kuraigana Island, where Mihawk lived. Zoro first intended to leave and rejoin Luffy, but after seeing a tattoo on Luffy, he changed his mind. He then asked Mihawk to teach him swordsmanship. Mihawk was taken aback, but Zoro’s strong will ultimately won him over.
Zoro trained with Mihawk, who taught him advanced techniques like Armament and Observation Haki – skills that proved invaluable in all his battles. While Mihawk guided Zoro, he always knew they’d eventually clash as opponents. He doesn’t fear this fight, though; he eagerly anticipates the chance to test Zoro’s abilities. Their battle promises to be legendary and will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the greatest ever.
Zoro’s Next Opponent After Mihawk
Zoro Will Fight More Enemies After Mihawk
Although Zoro is expected to defeat Mihawk in their next fight, his ambitions won’t stop there. His ultimate goal is to support Luffy in becoming the Pirate King, and he’ll continue fighting until Luffy achieves that dream. This means Zoro will need to be at his strongest to overcome the many powerful enemies – pirates and Marines alike – who stand in Luffy’s way. One Marine who could pose a significant challenge is Fujitora, a blind Admiral with the ability to control gravity thanks to his Devil Fruit power. They previously clashed during the Dressrosa arc, where Fujitora easily defeated Zoro.

However, their next meeting is likely to have a different outcome.
Fans have been eagerly awaiting a showdown between the Straw Hat Pirates and the Blackbeard Pirates for a long time. Now that the story is entering its final stages, that battle seems inevitable. Many believe Zoro will likely face off against Jesus Burgess, Blackbeard’s most powerful commander. Regardless of who he fights, it’s clear Zoro is rapidly becoming one of the strongest fighters in the world of One Piece.
