Daniel Vávra, the director of Kingdom Come: Deliverance, is leaving game development. According to Martin Frývaldský, CEO of the studio, Vávra will now focus on developing a movie based on the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series.
Dan is taking on a new project: creating the movie Kingdom Come, Frývaldský shared (through translation). He clarified that this isn’t a departure from Warhorse Studios, but rather something Dan himself desired. After successfully creating three globally popular games, Dan was ready to explore new creative opportunities.
Frývaldský explained that creating a movie based on Kingdom Come is a significant goal for Warhorse Studios. He also confirmed that, despite taking on a new role that will keep him out of the office frequently, Vávra remains a part of the studio team.
We’re aiming to adapt Kingdom Come for the screen within the next few years, and Dan will be leading that effort. While you won’t see him in the office as often, he’ll still be involved with Warhorse in a larger capacity.
Frývaldský announced that the movie’s script is finished, and Warhorse Studios is now discussing production with various companies.
Players familiar with games like Kingdom Come or Mafia will recognize Dan’s storytelling style and can anticipate another compelling narrative. Our brand has clearly expanded significantly, and Dan Vávra’s new role is essentially leading our efforts across different media formats. We view the film as an addition to our game development, and we believe both can thrive independently.
Originally launched in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, Kingdom Come: Deliverance quickly gained a dedicated following. Players loved its realistic world and complex gameplay. The game proved successful enough to warrant a sequel, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, which is now in development.
Kingdom Come: Deliverance follows Henry, a young man living a peaceful life in the village of Skalitz. His world is shattered when an unexpected invasion destroys everything he holds dear. Driven by loss and a promise to his late father—to deliver a sword to Radzig Kobyla—Henry embarks on a journey filled with danger and unravels a web of conspiracies along the way.
The game Kingdom Come: Deliverance has been updated for newer consoles like PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, improving its graphics and performance. The sequel is now available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. You can find our full review for a more detailed look.
