Assassin’s Creed Hexe Has Just Lost Its Creative Director

Clint Hocking, the creative director behind the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game, Codename Hexe, has left Ubisoft. However, work on Hexe will continue, now led by a new member of the Assassin’s Creed leadership team.

I’ve been following the development of the next Assassin’s Creed game – currently known as Hexe – for a while now! It was first hinted at way back in September 2022 during the same Ubisoft presentation where we got our first look at Assassin’s Creed Shadows (then called Red) and Mirage. They even showed off Jade, the mobile game that’s still in the works. Honestly, Ubisoft has kept pretty quiet about Hexe since that initial tease. But there have been rumors floating around that this one might be a bit different and more experimental than previous Assassin’s Creed titles, which is exciting!

Clint Hocking is a long-time veteran of the Canadian video game industry. He started his career at Ubisoft in the early 2000s, contributing to the original Splinter Cell as a writer and designer. He later led design, writing, and creative direction on Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, a demanding role he jokingly referred to as “brain damage” due to the intense workload. Hocking then directed Far Cry 2 at Ubisoft Montreal before leaving the company in 2010. Over the next five years, he worked on unreleased projects at LucasArts, Valve, and Amazon Game Studios. He eventually returned to Ubisoft to direct Watch Dogs Legion.

On February 25, 2026, Ubisoft announced that Clint Hocking had left the company again. This time, he departed during the development of Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe, the game he was leading. Ubisoft told IGN they thank Hocking for his years of creative work and vision, and wish him well in the future.

Clint Hocking has left Ubisoft just two days after the company announced a new leadership team for the Assassin’s Creed series. On February 23rd, Ubisoft revealed that Martin Schelling, Jean Guesdon, and François De Billy would be joining Andrée-Anne Boisvert and Lionel Hiller to lead the franchise. Each person will focus on a specific area, such as overseeing the brand, content, or production quality. Schelling, Guesdon, and De Billy are all long-time Ubisoft employees who have contributed to popular Assassin’s Creed games like Black Flag and Origins.

Development on Assassin’s Creed Hexe Continues With a New Creative Director

Ubisoft has confirmed to both IGN and VGC that development on Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe will continue, with Jean Guesdon now leading the project as creative director.
