Just before the US release of Resident Evil Requiem on February 25th, industry insider Shinobi602 reported on X and Bluesky that physical copies had already sold out at major retailers like Walmart, GameStop, Target, and Amazon. Following the links Shinobi shared confirms that both the Standard and Deluxe Editions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2 are currently listed as “Out of Stock.” This even includes the Switch 2-exclusive Resident Evil Generation Pack, which bundles Resident Evil 7, Village, and Requiem together.
It’s doubtful major retailers will get more copies of Resident Evil Requiem before its release on February 27, 2026. If you’re hoping to buy a physical copy, your best chance is probably a local, independent game store. Otherwise, if you’re okay with a digital version, Resident Evil Requiem will be readily available on Steam, the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store, and the Nintendo eShop.

This news arrived shortly after reviews for Resident Evil Requiem were released to the public. Currently, the game has a very positive reception on OpenCritic, with an average score of 89 from top critics and a 95% recommendation rate. These scores are based on 101 reviews published on February 25th at 7am Pacific Time / 10am Eastern Time. While a few more reviews might appear in the coming days, they likely won’t significantly change the game’s overall score.
The recent wave of good reviews might have convinced some hesitant fans to finally buy Resident Evil Requiem. If sales stay strong, it could become the best-selling game in the Resident Evil series, but it would need to surpass the impressive 15.4 million copies sold by Resident Evil 2 to do so.
