Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

As a long-time fanatic of “One Piece,” I can confidently say that the roster of formidable villains in this epic saga is nothing short of breathtaking. Among these formidable foes, Kizaru and Akainu stand out as two of the most intimidating adversaries our hero Luffy has ever encountered.

Eiichiro Oda’s “One Piece” narrative commences with the execution of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger. This triggers the start of a grand era of piracy. In this time, our main character, Luffy from “One Piece,” embarks on a journey across the sea, aiming to take up the title of the Pirate King himself.

Through time, Luffy has transformed into an exceptionally powerful pirate, placing him amongst the world’s top fighters. Along his journey, he’s encountered numerous villains, some of which served as stepping stones for his growth, while others truly deserve to be recognized as the most formidable in the tale.

28 Captain Kuro

Major Arc: Syrup Village

Captain Kuro served as a significant adversary during the East Blue Saga of One Piece. He assumed the position of chief antagonist in the Syrup Village storyline, posing a barrier for Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates. Eventually, Captain Kuro engaged in battle with Luffy and was defeated.

In the East Blue Saga, he wasn’t particularly powerful compared to others. Yet, he possessed a remarkable move called Pussy Foot Maneuver and razor-sharp claws that could slice through adversaries. Despite his lack of overall strength, Luffy swiftly adjusted to his abilities and ultimately emerged victorious.

27 Don Krieg

Major Arc: Baratie

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

Among the formidable opponents Luffy encountered during the East Blue saga, Don Krieg stood out as one of the most robust. He boasted about being the mightiest sea captain and truly pushed Luffy to his limits. Krieg was adorned with potent weaponry across his body, which he unsuccessfully employed in an effort to defeat Luffy.

Initially, Krieg wasn’t as physically powerful as his later counterparts, but he excelled in unscrupulous combat strategies, which often gave him an advantage. He was not hesitant to employ any method to secure victory, demonstrating his true pirate nature.

26 Arlong

Major Arc: Arlong Park

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the “Arlong Park” storyline of “One Piece,” Arlong served as the chief adversary. As a Fishman, he was born with a strength ten times greater than that of a human. His power was immense, capable of effortlessly leveling an entire town, a fact evident in his rule over Cocoyashi village.

Luffy found Arlong particularly tough to handle, yet his command of Fishman Karate left a lot to be desired. Despite this weakness, Arlong possessed sufficient strength to effortlessly overpower pirates like Zoro and Sanji.

25 Orochi

Major Arc: Wano

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the current storyline of “One Piece,” Orochi serves as a significant antagonist within the Wano Country saga. Initially hinted at during the Zou arc, Orochi made his formal appearance in Wano where his intentions to ruin the nation became clear.

Although Orochi is undeniably one of the most detestable villains in the One Piece series, his strength isn’t particularly formidable. With the Mythical Zoan Devil-Devil Fruit, Model: Yamata no Orochi, he can transform into an eight-headed serpent and has eight lives, but otherwise, he’s quite feeble.

24 Buggy

Major Arc: Orange Town

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but marvel at Buggy, the formidable antagonist who graced the East Blue Saga with his presence. He was the mastermind behind the chaos in Orange Town, and he was the first Devil Fruit user other than Luffy that we encountered. His unique abilities made him an intriguing villain, and since our introduction to Orange Town, he’s continued to captivate us as a recurring antagonist across numerous arcs.

Despite being less formidable compared to other pirates, Buggy has undeniably garnered a significant amount of recognition. At present, he stands as one of the Four Sea Emperors, suggesting that he may have significantly enhanced his abilities over time.

23 Gecko Moria

Major Arc: Thriller Bark

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

Gecko Moria served as the primary villain during the Thriller Bark storyline in One Piece. As one of the Shichibukai, he possessed significant power and had an impressive bounty of 320 million berries before it was ultimately frozen. Moria utilizes the Kage Kage no Mi, a Devil Fruit of the Paramecia class, which grants him the ability to control shadows freely.

In the course of the Thriller Bark storyline, Moria displayed sufficient strength to command Oars. Notably, it required Luffy to employ both Gear Second and Gear Third simultaneously in order to defeat him.

22 Vergo

Major Arc: Punk Hazard

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

Among the Donquixote Pirates, Vergo held a significant position as Doflamingo’s most trusted lieutenant. His strength was formidable, and although he lacked the power of a Devil Fruit, his mastery over Haki was highly regarded.

It’s quite remarkable that he managed to fight against Smoker and Law in battle. Notably, he could take on Law when he lacked access to his own heart. Vergo was powerful, but ultimately, he was defeated with a single shot by Trafalgar Law in the end.

21 Hody Jones

Major Arc: Fishman Island

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the Fishman Island storyline, Hody Jones played the primary antagonist. Through building up resentment, he became a formidable villain that Oda developed exceptionally well. Yet, compared to other characters in terms of raw power, he was not particularly strong.

From a Fishman’s perspective, my assessment of Hody’s abilities wasn’t particularly impressive. He leaned heavily on performance-enhancing substances to boost his strength, yet even with these enhancements, he struggled to keep up with Luffy in battle. In the end, it was the Straw Hat captain who effortlessly outmatched him. However, despite his obvious weaknesses, Hody managed to make a significant impact on the narrative and solidified himself as an outstanding antagonist.

20 Caesar Clown

Major Arc: Punk Hazard

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the storyline known as Punk Hazard, Luffy and his team made their initial landing in the New World. The central villain there was Caesar Clown. This character was conducting horrifying experiments aimed at enlarging children beyond human size. Simultaneously, it came to light that he was producing SAD fruits and Devil Fruits called Smile for Trafalgar D. Water Law, who in turn supplied them to Doflamingo. Doflamingo was then supplying these fruits to Kaido, one of the Four Sea Emperors.

In a larger context, Caesar might be seen as a minor antagonist, but within the narrative, he was undeniably a significant adversary for Luffy. He obstructed Luffy’s journey and eventually met a devastating defeat at his hands. Moreover, Caesar presented a formidable challenge that pushed Luffy to test and grow his skills in the New World. From this perspective, Caesar played an essential role as a great villain, offering fans a glimpse into his development.

19 Enel

Major Arc: Skypia

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the storyline of “One Piece,” Enel emerged as the primary adversary during the Skypiea arc. Empowered by the Logia-type Devil Fruit known as Goro Goro no Mi, Enel gained immense strength. Using this might, he leveled the town of Birka to the ground. Six years later, his objective was to repeat this destruction on Skypiea.

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but marvel at the might of Enel. In a single clash, he managed to overpower heavyweights like Zoro, Wyper, Robin, and even Gan Fall simultaneously. It was no easy feat for Luffy to emerge victorious against such formidable opposition as Enel; it truly took everything he had!

18 Rob Lucci

Major Arc: Enies Lobby

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the Enies Lobby saga, Rob Lucci, one of the most powerful members of the CP9 group, served as the primary antagonist. As anticipated, he went head-to-head with Luffy in the narrative. With a Doriki exceeding 4000, Lucci was significantly stronger than our protagonist, Luffy.

In a remarkable display, Lucci masterfully employed the Rokushiki techniques, as clearly shown by his ability to wield the Rokuogan. Even with Gear Second and Gear Third at his disposal, Luffy found it challenging to overpower Lucci. If not for Usopp’s assistance, Luffy would undoubtedly have been defeated in their battle.

17 Crocodile

Major Arc: Arabasta

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

Similar to Moria, Crocodile was part of the Shichibukai, serving as the primary adversary during the Alabasta saga. In this storyline, Crocodile managed to outmatch Luffy in battle on two separate occasions. To overcome Crocodile, Luffy had to lean heavily on fortune and push his abilities beyond their known limits. Crocodile’s control over the Suna Suna no Mi granted him immense power.

As a user of the Logia type, not many could rival him in battle. Following his breakout from Impel Down, it seems that Crocodile has significantly increased his strength compared to how he was during the Alabasta saga.

16 Magellan

Major Arc: Impel Down

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the Impel Down arc of “One Piece”, Magellan served as the primary antagonist. As the keeper of the world’s most formidable prison, he possessed immense power. During a confrontation with Luffy, he pushed Luffy to the brink of death. Magellan wielded the abilities of the Doku Doku no Mi, a Devil Fruit that allows him to create various types of poisons and control them at his discretion.

He even took out all of the Blackbeard Pirates on his own during the Impel Down arc, which just goes to show how skilled he truly was. Despite all the prisoners joining forces to take him down, they had no option but to run from him and make an escape from Impel Down.

15 Doflamingo

Major Arc: Dressrosa

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the world of One Piece, Doflamingo held the throne as the ruler of Dressrosa and served as the primary antagonist during its story arc. Post-timeskip, Doflamingo became the first pirate to pose a significant challenge for Luffy. Wielding the Ito Ito no Mi, a Devil Fruit that grants control over strings, Doflamingo possessed an extraordinary ability. Moreover, Doflamingo was exceptional among pirates due to his mastery of all three types of Haki.

In order to overcome him, Luffy needed to utilize the power of Gear Fourth on two separate occasions, underscoring the immense strength and formidable nature of Doflamingo as his adversary.

14 Bartholomew Kuma

Major Arc: Thriller Bark

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

During the Thriller Bark storyline, Bartholomew Kuma emerged as a formidable adversary. Although Gecko Moria was the primary antagonist, it became evident that Kuma posed a greater danger than Moria ever did. Towards the end of the arc, Kuma engaged in combat with Roronoa Zoro and ultimately overpowered not only him but the entire Straw Hat Pirate crew, as well as other pirates on Thriller Bark.

In another scenario, Luffy might have lost his head if not for the intervention of the Straw Hat Pirates, particularly Zoro. Interestingly, it was Kuma who orchestrated their separation at Sabaody Archipelago, but in truth, he was safeguarding them. Kuma’s roles seem conflicting, yet he excels in both portraying a menacing villain and a discreet savior.

13 Greenbull

Major Arc: Wano

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

Green Bull, one of the Marines’ Admirals, is renowned as one of the strongest characters in the world of One Piece. With a bounty of three crowns on his person, equivalent to an impressive sum of three billion berries, he certainly commands respect and fear.

Green Bull possesses the Mori Mori no Mi, a potent Logia Devil Fruit that enables transformation into a forest and command over all vegetation. Moreover, he demonstrates proficiency with Haki and seems skilled in swordsmanship, making him one of One Piece’s mightiest characters. In Wano, Green Bull was a minor antagonist but is expected to take on a significant role as the Final Saga unfolds due to his immense strength. As such, a high-ranking position within the storyline seems fitting for this formidable character.

12 Kizaru

Major Arc: Egghead Island

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the Sabaody Archipelago storyline, Kizaru first appeared. It turned out that he has the Pika Pika no Mi, a highly potent Logia Devil Fruit that gives him control over light and enables him to transform into it whenever he desires. Notably, during this arc, he showed incredible strength by overwhelming the Supernova on Sabaody.

Beyond that, I’m not just a one-time bad guy in this game world, no sir. I’ve got a knack for showing up when things get tough, and right now, I’m causing quite the ruckus. In the latest chapter, you could find me at the helm of a hundred ships, sailing straight for Egghead. That’s where Luffy is, so you can bet your last coin that I’ve got my sights set on him. My actions in these arcs have made me a formidable foe, a constant thorn in Luffy’s side during the Egghead arc and even causing trouble in Sabaody. It’s not over until I say it is!

11 Akainu

Major Arc: Marineford

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the popular anime series “One Piece,” Akainu is one of the major antagonists. He initially crossed paths with Luffy during the Marineford storyline. Twice, he attempted to eliminate Luffy using the power of his Devil Fruit, Magu Magu no Mi, but was unsuccessful. Following these events, Akainu ascended to the position of Fleet Admiral in the Marines, a rank that has significantly boosted his power.

Akainu is among a select group who can engage in battle with the Yonko, demonstrating that he ranks as one of the most powerful antagonists within the world of One Piece.

10 Blackbeard

Major Arc: Marineford

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

Among the formidable pirate lords, Blackbeard stands out as one of the most powerful, possessing control over not just one but two Devil Fruits – the Gura Gura no Mi and the Yami Yami no Mi. Through the passage of time, his power has significantly increased, and his dominion continues to expand substantially within the world of One Piece.

Blackbeard orchestrated Ace’s demise and also took the life of Whitebeard. He stands among a select few who strive fiercely, much like Luffy, to claim the title of Pirate King. With ruthless determination, he would stop at nothing to seize the elusive One Piece.

9 Big Mom

Major Arc: Whole Cake Island

Strongest Major Villains In One Piece

In the One Piece universe, Charlotte Linlin, more famously called Big Mom, is among the powerful Yonko leaders. She made her significant antagonist debut during the Whole Cake Island storyline and has been a persistent obstacle for Luffy ever since. This formidable character wields the power of the Soru Soru no Mi and showcases mastery over all three types of Haki.

Over time, Big Mom has accumulated an enormous bounty worth 4,388,000,000 berries, demonstrating her immense power. There’s no question that Big Mom ranks among the strongest villains in One Piece.
