As a seasoned analyst with over two decades of experience in the tech and crypto industries, I find myself intrigued by the recent developments involving Justin Drake and Dankrad Feist, esteemed researchers from the Ethereum Foundation, stepping down from their advisory roles at EigenLayer.
Two members of the Ethereum Foundation, Justin Drake and Dankrad Feist, have recently announced their resignation from their advisory roles at EigenLayer. They had assumed these positions with the restaking protocol back in May 2024, but this decision has left many in the cryptocurrency community feeling disheartened.
According to Bitcoinist‘s report, notable cryptocurrency figures have chosen to serve as advisors for EigenLayer. Specifically, Drake has pledged to channel his profits back into the Ethereum network. However, there is a buzz within the crypto community on social media platform X about potential conflicts of interest arising from the appointment of Ethereum researchers to this role.
Justin Drake Apologizes To Ethereum Community And Foundation
On X’s November 2 update, Justin Drake disclosed that he relinquished his advisory position with EigenLayer in September 2024 and departed from the Ultra Sound team as well. Additionally, the researcher expressed regret to the Ethereum community and his colleagues at the foundation for the uproar caused by his appointment.
Drake added in the post:
Moving forward, I’ll decline all positions as advisor, angel investor, and council member for any projects. This personal choice exceeds the current Ethereum Foundation’s conflict-of-interest policy, not because it was required of me but to demonstrate a strong dedication to impartiality.
According to Drake’s communication, the collaboration between two researchers on Eigenlayer triggered the Ethereum Foundation to establish a policy to prevent similar conflicts of interest. To start with, executive director Aya Miyaguchi publicly pledged the foundation’s determination to tackle conflicts of interest.
More Danksharding Upgrades?
Interestingly, Dankrad Feist simultaneously issued a statement on X regarding his voluntary departure from his advisory position at EigenLayer. The well-known innovator behind the “Danksharding” concept emphasized that although the agreement was made in good faith, he recognizes how his connection with EigenLayer might be misconstrued.
Feist noted:
Eigenlayer is a great project that I hope will continue to complement Ethereum well in several ways. But Ethereum has a lot of important work to do and I will focus all my attention on getting it done. This will allow me to be more effective in implementing Danksharding and other important projects.
On the X platform, these announcements received favorable feedback from the cryptocurrency community, as many prominent individuals expressed that it was wise for them to depart from EigenLayer.
