The Sims 4: Reaper Active Career Guide

The Sims 4: Reaper Active Career Guide

As someone who has spent countless hours playing The Sims 4 and dabbling in various careers, I must say that the Reaper career is by far one of the most intriguing and well-structured ones I’ve encountered. It’s not every day you get to work as a Grimtern and then rise through the ranks to become a Reaper!

As a devoted fan, I’m thrilled about the Life and Death expansion pack for The Sims 4, which offers a captivating perspective on a soul’s voyage, from living a rich life to facing the last stages of death. This expansion introduces intriguing elements like funeral events, advanced ghostly skills, and even the possibility of rebirth. At the heart of these themes are two new career paths: Reaper and Undertaker. The Undertaker is a conventional career with standard work hours, while the Reaper career is more interactive, similar to the Scientist or Doctor careers. With the Reaper career, you join your Sims on their daily grind, helping them complete tasks that influence their performance rating, thereby shaping promotion chances.

Unlike most professions, the role of a Reaper doesn’t split into distinct paths; rather, it becomes increasingly complex as characters advance, offering fresh and engaging daily duties. Skills like Thanatology, Physical Fitness, and Charisma are crucial for climbing the ranks. Notably, Reapers are tasked with aiding souls in their journey to the afterlife to secure promotions, and they must meet a unique weekly target of 25 souls. Meeting this target grants access to Grim’s Treasure Chest, an exclusive reward. Here’s a breakdown of each career level, skill prerequisites, tasks, and the essential knowledge players need to excel in the Reaper profession.

How to Join Reaper Career

Beginning a career as a Grim Reaper in The Sims 4 is just as simple as any other job – players can start it by choosing ‘Find a Job’ to open the career selection menu. At times, even the Grim Reaper himself might summon your Sim to join his team of Reapers. There are no specific requirements to get started, but due to its somber nature, this career is well-suited for Sims with the Macabre trait since they have a natural affinity for dealing with the afterlife and will experience fewer negative effects when around death. Maintaining the Focused moodlet while completing tasks is also beneficial.

Reaper Career Daily Tasks

As a thrilled new Grimtern, I’ll embark on my career by dedicating two action-packed days to active service. During this time, I’ll receive an immersive, hands-on training that equips me with the necessary skills for carrying out my reaper tasks effectively. On day one, I’ll be guided through the standard reaping procedures, which include preliminary tasks before travel and post-return duties to ensure the reaping process is completed successfully.

Pre-Travel Tasks

In order to embark on their journey and harvest souls, Sims must first accomplish a specific set of chores. These tasks are not overly complex, but it’s best to tackle them promptly so that players can manage them conveniently during travel or upon their return from reaping. Here is a list of tasks to be done:

  • Practice Reaping (By clicking on the mannequin)
  • Perform Scythe Maintenance (Click on the active Sim)
  • Perform Research Assignment (Click on bookshelf)
  • Scry for Travel (Click Scry Bowl)

On-site Tasks

As Sims advance in their Reaper profession, their assignments become more intricate and involve a range of tasks prior to successfully harvesting souls and wrapping up their on-site duties for the day. In the initial stages of their career, Sims may be tasked with gathering only 1 or 2 souls daily; however, as they move up the ranks, the number can swell to 4 or 5 souls (particularly during emergencies that allow Sims to bypass preliminary tasks, like the Cowplant Emergency or Laughter Disaster), aiding them in meeting Grim’s weekly soul target. For each case, Sims must initially determine the reason behind the death before they can officially reap the soul.

Based on various situations, Sims may have to examine objects close to the deceased to discover hints or communicate with potential witnesses. Among the duties are:

  • Determine Cause of Death (Click on the deceased Sim to “Investigate Cause of Death” a couple of times, before being able to Determine the Cause of Death”
  • Speak To Witness (Click on any living Sim nearby)
  • Investigate Items (Click on nearby items like chairs or tables)
  • Collect Soul (Click on the deceased Sim)

When gathering a soul, players can select among several alternatives. These variations primarily serve to add visual diversity, though they also have varying success rates. For instance, a cautious reaping will take more time but is guaranteed to succeed, whereas other methods carry the risk of failure, which could potentially prolong the duration.

  • Ask For Review (Click the urn)
  • Return Urn To Family (Click the urn)
  • Soothe Witness (Click the nearby alive Sim, and find it under the Social Menu)
  • Get To Know Witnesses (Click the nearby alive Sim, and find it under the Friendly Menu)
  • Return To Office (Click on active Sim)

In specific situations, game characters might be asked to fulfill a duty related to a Plea for Mercy. Depending on their decision, the active character can either agree (which results in the deceased character being brought back to life by clicking on them; if they refuse the plea, the soul is collected instead. Players essentially have the freedom to pick either option, but opting to revive the character means they won’t be able to claim a soul towards their quota, making it harder to meet the goal. Following this choice, characters can go back to work as normal.

Post-Reaping Tasks

After coming back from a successful harvest, there’s still plenty left on the plate. These tasks are simple and straightforward, so players should strive to complete as many as they can before earning a Gold medal for the day. Apart from that, the character can engage in various activities to improve skills, meet needs, or send souls to the afterlife, or check their weekly progress report. The tasks at hand include:

  • File Death Certificate (Click the PC. It’s recommended to prioritize this task over the others.)
  • Analyse Death Trends (Click the PC)
  • Order Office Supplies (Click the PC)
  • Set Reaping Schedules (Click the Slablet)
  • Socialize with Co-workers (Click any other Sim on the lot)

After work hours end, players can earn their Simoleons and witness an improvement in their performance depending on the medal they’ve won.

Reaper Career Emergency Tasks

Occasionally, gamers could encounter an Emergency Mission at the main base, preventing them from harvesting souls for a day. Instead, they’ll need to focus on completing a unique series of tasks, either at a specific location or back at the headquarters.

Afterlife Emergency

In this case, the Netherworld Gate appears to be malfunctioning, and you’ll have to focus on repairing it to finish today’s objectives. Here are some tasks you might encounter:

  • Fix The Scrying Bowl (Click the Scry bowl. Handiness skill can be useful to repair more efficiently)
  • Exorcise The Mischievous Ghost (Find the spirit and use exorcise option. They can be found posessing furniture.)
  • Recalibrate Grim’s Slablet (Click on a Slablet)
  • Repair The Netherworld Portal (Click on the Portal. Usually available as the final task for the emergency)

After finishing these assignments, Sims will continue with their routine tasks at the HQ till the day’s work ends.

Collect Lost Souls and Make Grimborsia

In this specific situation, Sim (the character) must journey to a vacant plot that has been impacted by Netherworld Cracks, leading to the leakage of souls into the physical world. Fortunately for Sim, they can bypass the initial traveling preparations and depart immediately. The tasks that typically precede travel are:

  • Harvest Grimbrosia Source (Click the orange plant on the lot)
  • Close Netherworld Fissures (Click the blue-glowing cracks on the floor)
  • Pick Up Lost Souls (Click the floating souls. These will also count towards the weekly quota)
  • Return to the Office
  • Make Grimbrosia (Cook Grimbrosia in the kitchen upstairs at the HQ. Sims will also need to deliver Grimbrosia to the Grim, which will increase their relationship)

Weekly Soul Quota

The Sims 4: Reaper Active Career Guide

In the profession of a Reaper, your Sim characters are assigned the job of gathering 25 souls weekly, which is a shared objective among fellow Reaper coworkers. Achieving this target isn’t just important for keeping up good work performance, but it also triggers access to rewards from Grim’s special chest positioned upstairs in the HQ. Your Sim can monitor their progress towards the quota at any moment by using a computer while they are at the HQ, giving them the flexibility to organize their tasks effectively.

As a dedicated professional, hitting my weekly quota not only enhances my career growth but also unlocks a well-deserved bonus. Conversely, missing the quota before the week’s end can have a detrimental effect on my career progression.

Grim will send a notification a day in advance about the weekly soul quota deadline. If players are struggling with reaching the goal in time, they can always buy some additional Lost Souls from the Mysterious Merchant in return for some Simoleons.
