How to Catch and Carry Birds in Crimson Desert

The “Feather of the Earth” challenge in Crimson Desert asks you to find and hold five different kinds of birds. It can be tricky because most birds will fly away when you get close. However, the easiest way to complete this challenge is to look for birds that can’t fly, like kiwis and partridges. You can find these flightless birds all over the large map of Crimson Desert, but thankfully, there’s a convenient location right near the starting town where you can finish the challenge quickly and easily.

How to Find and Catch Birds in Crimson Desert

The river east of Hernand is the ideal location for this challenge. You’ll find lots of ducks and partridges along the bank. The ducks will try to fly off when they see you, but you can sneak up on them and catch them quickly. The partridges here are much simpler to catch because they can’t fly at all! They will run, but you can easily outpace them with a sprint.

If you see a bird, a message will pop up asking if you want to pick it up. You can also interact with moving animals – even while you’re running! Don’t worry if the interaction message looks faded; just keep running and hold down the Interact button. Your character will eventually swoop in and grab the bird. Repeat this process with five birds near the river, and you’ll finish the challenge quickly.

After you unlock the Sealed Abyss Artifact, be sure to open it in your inventory to start receiving its benefits. If you don’t open it, it won’t do anything for you.

Feather of the Earth Location

Okay, so I was trying to find the Sealed Abyss Artifact, and it’s actually near Karin Quarry – you know, the same place where we did the Stolen Quarry quest? It’s along the road, and there’s this little shrine with the artifact sitting right on top. If you’re having trouble spotting it, I found that getting to a high spot and using Blinding Flash really helps – you can see a little sparkle where it is. Also, the game actually shows Sealed Abyss Artifacts as purple icons on your minimap when you get close, which is super helpful! Oh, and the shrine that has the Feathers of the Earth is near a tree with a pile of rocks next to it.

The ‘Feather of the Earth’ challenge is one of many bird-related tasks found in the ‘White Crow’s Gaze/Hunting’ section of your in-game Journal. These challenges all require you to either capture or defeat animals, and you’ll often find them roaming areas like Demeniss and throughout the Crimson Desert.

Near where the Sealed Abyss Artifact is hidden, you’ll find flocks of partridges. If you approach the birds and catch them five times – either by running or sneaking – the artifact will unlock.
