LEGO Fan Builds Their Own Magnemite in the Same Scale as Eevee

After LEGO released its official Eevee set, a Pokémon fan built their own version of Magnemite, using a similar scale. Both Eevee and Magnemite were among the first 151 Pokémon introduced in the original Pokémon Red and Green games back in 1996. LEGO’s first Pokémon sets came out in February, perfectly timed for Pokémon Day. While Eevee immediately received its own dedicated LEGO set, Magnemite hasn’t been as popular. It’s not easy to find Magnemite merchandise, except for trading cards and a few figures.

Building block versions of Pokémon have been available for years, but The Pokémon Company used to work with Mattel, releasing sets under Mattel’s Mega brand. The initial LEGO sets feature some of the most well-known Pokémon, like Pikachu, Eevee, Charizard, Blastoise, and Venusaur. We can expect even more LEGO Pokémon products in the future, and rumors suggest collectible minifigures are coming soon.

Building LEGO Magnemite

A Reddit user named Hachiroku24 recently shared a photo of their impressive LEGO Magnemite, built to roughly the same size as the LEGO Eevee set. The creation is a remarkably accurate replica of the Electric/Steel-type Pokémon, and looks so good it could easily be an official LEGO set! It includes all of Magnemite’s signature details, like the screw on its head and its single eye. While an official set seems unlikely – the Eevee set costs $60, and Magnemite isn’t quite as popular – fans can build their own using instructions from Hachiroku24’s YouTube channel, which provides a detailed look at how it was made.

Magnemite isn’t one of the most well-known Pokémon, but it still has dedicated fans. Recently, in 2024, a fan created a LEGO version of Magnemite, though it was a smaller build with only 54 pieces. This smaller size might make it easier for other fans to build their own. The existence of multiple custom LEGO Magnemite sets proves that everyone has a favorite Pokémon. With over 1,000 Pokémon now available – and more coming in 2027 with the release of Pokémon Winds and Waves on Nintendo Switch 2 – having a unique favorite is a source of pride for many fans. The original 151 Pokémon are especially beloved by longtime players who grew up with the series on the original Game Boy.

Magnemite is gaining popularity, likely because of the recent release of Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen on Nintendo Switch. These games are updated versions of the classic Pokemon Red and Green, offering a similar experience with some key improvements. One of those improvements is the addition of Dark and Steel-type Pokemon, which weren’t available in the original games. Since the Kanto region doesn’t have many Electric-type Pokemon, and Magnemite and Magneton are the only ones that are also Steel-type (thanks to updates in later games), players are starting to see them in a new light. While Magnemite might not be as cute as Pikachu, this Electric-type Pokemon has a unique appeal that’s kept it popular for over thirty years.
