As a seasoned gamer who has navigated countless digital landscapes, I must say that these challenges seem to be a thrilling blend of skill, timing, and strategy. The first act challenge, with its one-ring conundrum, reminds me of my early days when I had to master the art of jumping just right to avoid pitfalls and grab keys.
Sunset Heights lies roughly in the middle on the side of Shadow, implying it’s nearly the penultimate stage and significantly tougher compared to the levels that came before.
Unlike Kingdom Valley which offers a more open-ended experience, this place is significantly more challenging due to its emphasis on fast-paced, reaction time-based challenges.
To clarify, this layout can sometimes make it challenging to locate and retrieve the keys. Therefore, if you’re on a hunt for them, consider this guide as your primary route or ‘Park Avenue’, which will help you easily find what you need.
No matter which act or challenge stage you’re on, we’re going over every single key you could want.
Act 1
These stages are filled with skill tests and offer multiple routes, encouraging you to delve deeply as you approach the latter stages of the game. To successfully navigate them, you’ll need to employ most of your abilities and thoroughly explore the paths provided.
Key | Location |
---|---|
Memory Key | This first key is found after popping out of the first roofed section, on the straightaway, with many cannons and spikes. You’ll find two cannons shooting in opposite directions, one shooting toward you and the other shooting up and away, towards a floating platform with the key. Use Chaos Control when its cannonballs are near the platform, then just homing attack the floating orbs for your prize. |
Music Key | While you’re getting rocks thrown at you by the massive Egg Pawns for the first time, you’ll get a Chaos Control capsule, and you’ll need to use it wisely. Right before the rocks hit the ground, freeze time, then homing attack them to get on an upper platform, where you’ll be rewarded with another key. |
Art Key | If you want this key, you’ll first have to ignore the alternate route on the top left of the sewers, and instead go in the easier bottom right route. Once you kick the Black Arms soldier up into the air, don’t just go straight forward, instead aim upwards for your key and another alternate route. |
Act 2
As a gamer, I find this 2D game particularly tricky when it comes to collecting certain items. The keys, specifically, are not easy to grab due to their timing-based challenges. If you don’t react quickly enough, you miss the key and have to start over. Interestingly, one of the keys even rewards you for taking the worst path, but I’ll delve into that aspect later on.
Key | Location |
---|---|
Music Key | This key is a way into the level after you’ve dodged a bunch of massive Egg Robo Lasers when you’ll be sent over some falling platforms above a river. Quickly jump to the right, and homing attack the line of buzz bombers spawning, then keep chaining those buzz bombers till you get sent right into the key. Alternatively, if you miss your shot, you could just take the lower route, get up high, then go back to the left and boost jump for it. |
Memory Key | Immediately after the massive winding rail set piece, you’ll be sent inside, and make sure to take the lower rail for this key. You’ll see it right away, and all you need to do is stomp on the boxes and use Doom Surf to acquire it. |
Art Key | After you’ve gotten out of the sewers, you’ll be sent into a big Egg Robo punching towards the screen. Use Chaos Control to freeze time while its fist is extended, then use Doom Blast to kick it into the distance and grab your key. |
Act 1 Challenge 1 (Beware of Spinning Spikes!)
These challenges aren’t particularly elusive, since I believe none of the solutions hidden within them are tough to locate. Yet, reaching them often proves tricky even when visible, which is why I’m here to help.
Key | Location |
---|---|
Art Key #1 | After getting up the elevator, you’ll be in a small hallway with a few floating platforms. Get to the end of this quickly and hop in the dash ring before the blocks close in around it. This will send you up to the same place you found a key before, you just have to grind the rail in the tunnel for it this time. |
Art Key #2 | After getting out of the route the previous key takes you on, immediately Chaos Spear a launch pad, then homing attack or boost your way to another key. |
Music Key | While on a slow-moving platform meant to make you dodge spikes, you’ll see a dash ring right above a big wall of spike balls. Jump into that ring, homing attack chain over to your last key. |
Act 1 Challenge 2 (One Ring Challenge Lv2)
Key | Location |
---|---|
Music Key | About 15 seconds in, you’ll see this one in plain sight above a set of spike balls. You’ll need to time your jump so that you don’t get hit by the moving balls of death and not have depth perception fail you, but otherwise, you should know what to do. |
Art Key #1 | Another one in plain sight at the end of the same section, this one requires you to jump across a gap and above a spinning spike trap. Jump for it and be sure to use boost and stomp to save yourself if need be. |
Art Key #2 | Once you’re out in the open, get onto the big moving platform weaving between spike balls, where you’ll see your final key. You can either wait for the platform to move under it, or just jump for it. Either way works. |
Act 2 Challenge 1 (Death Egg Robot Panic!)
Key | Location |
---|---|
Music Key | This first one is in plain sight just a few seconds into the level. Just press the button to the right of it, and then jump down onto the platform to grab it. |
Art Key #1 | Another easily visible one, just press all the buttons on the bottom platform, make sure to avoid the lasers, and jump up to the top left platform for this key. |
Art Key #2 | You can’t miss this one, just play the stage normally, and at the very tail end of the stage, after dodging some lasers, you’ll be sent through rainbow rings that give it to you. |
Act 2 Challenge 2 (Dash Ring Rush! Lv2)
Key | Location |
---|---|
Music Key | Potentially the quickest key to get in this game, you can get this one in 7 seconds by just going through the rings on the ground, then jumping on the upper trail of boost rings instead of the lower. |
Art Key #1 | While you’re using dash rings above a massive pit, just go for the rightmost ring and get another free key. |
Art Key #2 | While you’re flying through the air, you’ll see two dash rings with one on top of the other, and you need to hit the top one. This can be a bit tricky, but if you conserve your double jump and boost you’ll hit it with ease. |
