How to Beat Black Bears’ Captain (In Ashes) in Crimson Desert

The “In Ashes” quest in Crimson Desert throws you right into the conflict for control of Calphade. Your mission is to sneak into the Black Bears’ stronghold and free the captured soldiers. But beware – you’ll have to defeat a powerful Black Bears commander, which won’t be simple! This guide will walk you through infiltrating the base, defeating the captain mini-boss, and finishing the “In Ashes” quest in Crimson Desert with ease.

How to Infiltrate Black Bears’ Base in Crimson Desert (In Ashes Quest)

I’m really excited about the ‘In Ashes’ quest! It starts during the ‘Turning Tides’ part of Chapter 6, ‘Cracks in the Shield’, in Crimson Desert. Basically, after we plant those banners all over the Calphade battlefield, Kliff has to sneak into the Black Bears’ base to save the captured soldiers. But be warned – if you just run in guns blazing, you’ll get completely ambushed by the Black Bears and their Captain! You definitely need to be sneaky about it.

Before going inside, prioritize eliminating the groups of Black Bear soldiers positioned outside the stronghold, especially near the entrance. Reducing the number of weaker enemies will significantly simplify the battle against the Black Bears’ Captain – the mini-boss for the “In Ashes” quest in Crimson Desert.

After dealing with most of the enemies near the Black Bears’ base, you have a choice: you can go straight to the quest location, or you can stop at a resupply point (shown as a flag on your map) to restock your healing items first.

How to Beat the Black Bear Captain in Crimson Desert (In Ashes Quest)

To continue the ‘In Ashes’ quest, you need to enter the Black Bears’ base and defeat their Captain. This fight can be challenging, depending on how good your equipment is. Here’s a simple strategy to help you win.

Lure Black Bear Captain Outside the Gates

First, put the Whistling Arrows on your bow and aim for the Black Bear Captain when he stops moving within the base. Your teammates will launch artillery strikes at the captain, causing significant damage. Be ready to dodge when the ground flashes red – this signals the Black Bear Captain is about to jump attack, and you need to move quickly to avoid the blow.

Keep Attacking Black Bear Captain Outside the Gates

Once the Black Bear Captain leaves the stronghold gates, it can’t attack you, giving you a chance to strike with a series of close-range attacks. You can inflict a lot of damage to it before it goes back inside.

After the Black Bear Captain returns inside the gate, hit him with a Whistling Arrow to make him jump attack again. Then, when he’s outside the gate, he can’t attack, so you can keep repeating this process until the Black Bear Captain is defeated. Once you beat him in the Crimson Desert, a cutscene will play, and you’ll move on to the next quest.
