Marathon Makes Major Change to Its Content Schedule

As a huge fan, I’m really glad to hear Bungie is listening to us! They’ve announced they’re fixing the schedule for limited-time modes and maps in Marathon – things like Ranked and Cryo Archive – because they were sometimes running at the same time, which was a bummer. Bungie has been using our feedback a lot while making Marathon, and it’s awesome to see! Even though the game was delayed until 2026, they really delivered on features we asked for, like proximity chat, which makes the experience so much better.

Bungie has been responsive to player feedback and continues to make changes to improve the game. Unlike some other games, Marathon doesn’t rely heavily on limited-time offers or put most of its content behind paywalls; players can still purchase Reward Passes even after seasons end. Players weren’t happy with the rewards in the first Season Pass, so Bungie is quickly fixing this by adding more customization options, like new character designs, in April. Because players are still sharing their thoughts, Bungie has announced even more plans for the game’s future.

Marathon Changes Ranked and Cryo Archive Availability

The Marathon Development Team has listened to player feedback and is making a change to how Ranked and Cryo Archive are available. Previously, both modes were available at the same time, which created a difficult choice for players since both are limited-time events and offer valuable rewards. Cryo Archive is a challenging, end-game map with puzzles, tough enemies, and great loot, but it’s only available for a short period. Ranked is also designed as a high-level, weekend-only mode, similar to Trials of Osiris in Destiny 2.

Players won’t have to worry about choosing between the two game modes in Marathon anymore. Bungie has announced that Cryo Archive and Ranked will alternate, so you’ll have dedicated time to enjoy each one. This weekend, Cryo Archive will be available starting Thursday, March 26th at 10am PT and will run until Sunday, March 29th at 10am PT. Then, Ranked mode will begin and continue until Thursday, April 2nd at 10am PT. Bungie plans to continue this rotating schedule, giving players a predictable way to access both modes.

Even after its official launch, Bungie is still actively updating and refining Marathon. It’s typical for online games to change over time, but Bungie seems to be making changes to Marathon much more quickly than they did with Destiny 2. Updates are coming out regularly, and the development team, including game director Joe Ziegler, is communicating frequently with players. This is a noticeable shift for Destiny 2 fans, who are still hoping for news about the game’s future plans and roadmap.

Bungie is constantly improving the Marathon experience based on what players are saying. A popular request was a dedicated Duos mode, which wasn’t available when the game first launched but has now been added as a temporary option. Joe Ziegler shared that this feature is still being developed, and they wanted players to try it out and provide feedback. Initially, testing was limited to the Perimeter map, but it’s now also available on Dire Marsh. It’s unclear if testing will expand to Outpost or when the sessions will end, so players who are interested should jump in while they can.
