EA Multiplayer Games Delisted November 7

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the vibrant worlds of EA titles, I can’t help but feel a pang of nostalgia as we bid farewell to Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4, Battlefield: Hardline, NBA Live 18, and FIFA 22. These games were not just pixels on a screen; they were virtual realms where friendships were forged, battles were waged, and countless hours were lost (and loved) in the pursuit of victory.

Time’s steady progression may seem predictable, but it can also be harsh, a truth that gamers understand far too intimately.

On November 7th, it’s a sad day indeed for four significant Electronic Arts (EA) games, as the company is set to discontinue their multiplayer features.

On this significant event, it’s regrettably frequent in the era of cooperative and ongoing game services.

It reflects the worries that numerous gamers experience when their preferred game fails to meet the extraordinary expectations previously established by the Mysterious Capitalist.

Without further ado, here are tomorrow’s obituaries.

Battlefield 3

In simpler terms, “Operation Metro, full weapon load at all times, day and night” – once heard, could bring a sense of nostalgia to any dedicated gamer.

In this alternative setting, the vivid neon blue illumination seemed remarkably familiar, just as the reassuring warmth of being caught in a hail of shots from a Saiga-12 wielder, whirling into view, did.

For PC gamers, Battlefield 3 continues to thrive, boasting what many consider the most thrilling cooperative superpowered campaign (though Modern Warfare comes close). However, the iconic blue light will dim for the final time on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles.

Battlefield 4

Although some people might not have been fond of the grandiose direction the campaign took, the multiplayer aspect in Battlefield 4 likely reached its peak within the series.

As a gamer, I dived into an epic adventure with this new title, boasting enhanced visuals and a wider array of weapons. For the first time on console, I was part of the thrill and pandemonium that comes with battling it out in a 64-player conquest match – sheer joy!

The environmental destruction took it even further than Battlefield 3, and it is a feature that most big-name shooters today seem to have forgotten.

Following a rocky debut, Battlefield 4 showcased the art of rescuing a game through updates. Though its Xbox 360 and PS3 players are deeply regretted, you’re now invited to engage in Operation Locker on PC.

Battlefield: Hardline

Some might argue that it wasn’t Battlefield: Hardline that wasn’t suitable for the world, but rather the world that wasn’t yet prepared for the game.

The new game offers a fresh perspective on the cops versus robbers theme, deviating from the shoot-everyone approach of Grand Theft Auto towards a more strategic style of play similar to the classic Battlefield games.

Thaddeus Sasser, the multiplayer designer of the game, stated that the escalated conflicts between U.S. citizens and law enforcement following the 2014 shooting of Michael Brown were a significant factor in Electronic Arts (EA) deciding against developing any sequels to the game.

The Step-Children

Indeed, while the Battlefield series often steals the spotlight, it’s not the only casualty we’re talking about here. Tomorrow, Electronic Arts will also effectively retire NBA Live 18, which is the penultimate game in the series. Since 2020, the NBA has been exclusively represented under the NBA 2K brand.

On Monday, I sadly bid farewell to the multiplayer world of FIFA 22, a game that brought countless hours of virtual football fun.

To all those who contributed to creating Battlefield, NBA Live 18, and FIFA 22, a heartfelt appreciation. The countless hours you invested in these projects may be irreplaceable, but the cherished memories they’ve provided will endure eternally.

The future appears hopeful at least, as Battlefield hints at a return to more rational modern warfare, and FC 25 is set to bring authentic football back to the non-FIFA series.
