The One Piece anime has gotten much better in recent years. Because of these improvements, the studio, Toei Animation, is changing how the show is released, moving to a new season-based format. The anime will return in April 2026 with the Elbaf arc, where Luffy and the Straw Hat crew will begin their journey in the land of giants. To build excitement for the new season, One Piece is planning some big announcements on March 28th.
One Piece Anime Plans A Big Elbaf Arc Reveal For March 28
Fans of One Piece won’t have to wait much longer for the show’s return – it’s coming in under two weeks! But before the new season starts, there’s a special treat: a brand new opening sequence will be released on March 28, 2026. This will give fans their first glimpse of the highly anticipated Elbaf arc, even before the episodes air. Considering the excellent openings during the Egghead Arc, this new sequence will likely give fans a good idea of what to expect from the upcoming story.
Elbaf Arc Opening Theme Gets Its First Look
Toei Animation announced on X (formerly Twitter) that the new opening theme song will debut on March 28th. They shared a brief 15-second teaser featuring snippets of the music and some concept art.
Currently, the artist performing the opening theme for the upcoming release is unknown. However, many believe it could be Vaundy, who previously contributed to the One Piece Film: Red soundtrack. This speculation started after the artist shared a sketch of Monkey D. Luffy on their Instagram story.

How Toei Animation Will Balance Pacing And Quality In The New Final Saga Arc
Now that Egghead’s storyline has finished, the stage is set for the long-awaited Elbaf arc, and fans are incredibly hyped. While some are worried about how good it will be, especially after the recent change in seasons, early glimpses of the arc weren’t fully polished. However, those were from months ago, and it’s likely Toei Animation has had time to refine and improve everything since then.
The biggest problem with One Piece isn’t the animation itself – the show often looks fantastic. However, the pacing continues to be slow. While Toei Animation has pledged to adapt at least one chapter per episode, this still isn’t fast enough. As a result, scenes in the upcoming Elbaf arc will likely be extended to fill airtime. Thankfully, the animation quality should be similar to what viewers enjoyed during the Egghead Island arc.
When Will The Elbaf Arc Begin in The Anime?
The One Piece anime paused on December 28th, 2025, disappointing many fans. This break finished the Egghead Arc with episode 1155. Since then, the team behind One Piece has been hard at work on the next story, and now it’s almost time for the show to come back with the Elbaf Arc. The new arc will begin airing on April 5, 2026, so fans won’t have to wait much longer!
Toei has announced that the first part of the Elbaf arc will be about 13 episodes long and will air over three months. The anime is expected to take a short break after this, before continuing with a second part of another 13 episodes. This will bring the total for the arc to 26 episodes, planned for completion in 2026.
