Guild Wars 2: Best Flax Farming Locations

Guild Wars 2: Best Flax Farming Locations

As a seasoned Guild Wars 2 player with years under my belt, I can confidently say that farming flax has never been easier, thanks to these hidden gems scattered across the maps. From the Druid’s Grotto beneath Heathen’s Hold on Draconis Mons, to the Jungle Anomaly in Jahai Bluffs, these spots are a game-changer for any serious farmer.

Players of Guild Wars 2 often face the annoyance of searching vast jungles or deserts for flax nodes, which are necessary for every crafting profession that deals with weapons and armor. Finding fifteen flax seeds is required to make a vial of linseed oil, and numerous vials of these are needed for crafting an armor or weapon part, making the process tedious and time-consuming.

Yet, it’s surprising that even experienced players may not realize that there are numerous flax-rich locations scattered throughout Tyria (particularly those introduced in the “Heart of Thorns” expansion and Living World Season 3). These spots offer daily harvesting opportunities for flax, with multiple characters able to do so. To make the most of this farming method, it’s beneficial to have access to the mounts available in Guild Wars 2, particularly the skyscale.

Below Jaka Itzel – Verdant Brink

A Quick Leap Below The Village Waypoint

  • Required: Heart of Thorns
  • Travel time: under 10 seconds
  • Waypoint: Jaka Itzel Waypoint

This patch of flax nodes is by far the easiest to find as it is just a short jaunt away from the first “Heart of Thorns” map. From Jaka Itzel Waypoint in Verdant brink, head northeast and jump off the village platform. Just be careful not to make the rookie mistake of hitting the rocky ledge below the bamboo platforms. Falling straight down, past branches and an updraft, there is a group of NPC Itzel walking around, as well as a few corrupted minions of Mordemoth.

Adversaries may be evaded or disregarded, and handily, all the flax nodes are situated together, right at the tree’s base. Make sure to use a glider just before landing and gather the flax seeds. It’s easy to get disoriented in this region, but it’s quite common to find numerous other players carrying out their daily harvest here. Therefore, if you happen to land in an unfavorable spot, be aware of these fellow players who can help guide you back on track.

The Great Tree By Ogre Camp – Tangled Depths

A Long Climb Or A Short Flight Up

  • Required: Heart of Thorns
  • Travel time: 30 seconds (skyscale), two minutes (springer), or considerably longer (without mounts)
  • Waypoint: Ogre Camp Waypoint

Reaching the flax seed spot can be effortless with a Skyscale or even a Springer. However, without the extraordinary jumping capabilities of mounts, players will need to climb their way up from the base of the tree. Start at the Ogre Camp Waypoint, then follow the rocky arch where the tropical birds reside. Utilize your Skyscale to soar to the bent palm and from there, ascend further by flying through the massive tree’s opening.

Individuals riding springers must ascend the tree’s right-side rock wall and utilize a ledge to leap towards the opening in the bark. For those without mounts, this route may prove challenging, as it includes a difficult jumping challenge followed by encounters with more Mordrem minions. As an alternative, players can soar over to the Great Tree’s summit from Arboreal Overlook, which is accessible via updrafts found at Whisperer’s Camp Waypoint.

The Fragmented Wastes Above Ground Zero – Bloodstone Fen

Climbing Ledges And Crossing Fragmented Islands

  • Required: Living World Season 3 (Episode 1)
  • Travel time: two minutes (skyscale or griffin) or five to ten minutes (without mounts)
  • Waypoint: Ground Zero Waypoint or Soulkeeper’s Airship Waypoint

Given the aerial nature of this map, flying mounts are highly recommended, but a character with a glider and leyline mastery can get by well enough. From Ground Zero Waypoint, use leylines and updrafts to get as high as possible. This is considerably faster for those players without a griffin and skyscale. It’s also as viable to come in from Soulkeeper’s Airship Waypoint and fly east from there.

Make progress by utilizing jumping mushrooms, air currents, or leylines, and navigate your way towards the Scattered Ruins, centrally located on the map. One of the larger islands in this area hosts five flax nodes, three at the highest point and two on a side platform. To the east lies a series of smaller floating islands connected by updrafts. Utilize an updraft to soar to the second island, which also has two nodes, and another updraft to reach the fifth one, where you’ll find the sixth node.

Druid’s Grotto, Beneath Heathen’s Hold – Draconis Mons

A Short Drop Down To The Druid’s Circle

  • Required: Living World Season 3 (Episode 5)
  • Travel time: three minutes
  • Waypoint: Heathen’s Hold Waypoint

In Guild Wars 2, this map is particularly simple for farming flax. Begin at Heathen’s Hold and make your way northwest towards the heart of the volcano. A trio of Unbound Magic indicators will guide you on your descent. Keep an eye on them as you fall, beware of a large opening in the cliff face that has a mithril ore deposit and a sapling harvesting spot overhead.

To reach Druid’s Grotto, head in an easterly direction from the volcano and pass through a narrow entrance. Although you won’t encounter any druids, the place offers various resources to gather, including a circle of flax seeds located at the most western corner. This spot is quite busy due to its popularity, so you should have no trouble finding fellow players completing their daily rounds around the ring. However, keep an eye out for the Grub Gobbler champion as it roams the area.

The Jungle Anomaly – Jahai Bluffs

An Anomalous Return To The Jungle From Jahai

  • Required: Living World Season 4 (Episode 5)
  • Travel time: five minutes
  • Waypoint: Yatendi Village Waypoint

Due to an unusual fog phenomenon, a slice of the Maguuma Jungle has been incorporated into this “Path of Fire” Living World Season 4 map, and it brings along a wealth of flax. The lush green area isn’t easy to overlook; you can find it to the west of Crescent’s Prosperity. To reach this jungle anomaly, set off from Yatendi Village Waypoint. Your destination is near the map center where the Jungle Anomaly resides.

The eastern approach offers the most convenient entry point. Scattered throughout the locale are eight flax nodes; they’re all within the reach of the mini-map. To navigate each level, utilize mushrooms or a springer to ascend and descend. Be prepared to either bypass or eliminate any Chakk that may obstruct your path. This region is often explored by brave adventurers in GW2 rather than farmers due to the dispersed flax nodes or its distance from a waypoint, making it the least frequented of all zones rich in flax.
