A recent update has fixed a significant bug and boosted performance in God of War: Sons of Sparta. This Metroidvania action-platformer, created by Mega Cat Studio with help from Santa Monica Studio, takes place in the world of God of War. The game tells the story of a young Kratos and his brother Deimos as they train to become Spartan warriors. When one of them goes missing, the brothers embark on a quest to find him and prove their abilities.
Even though it’s a spin-off of the Metroidvania genre, God of War: Sons of Sparta is quickly becoming a hit. Recent sales data from Circana shows it’s actually outselling popular games like Forza Horizon 5, Ghost of Yotei, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. It landed at number 14 overall and a strong number 6 on PlayStation charts. While the game is proving successful, players have experienced some performance issues and bugs. Thankfully, Mega Cat Studios seems to be actively working to fix these problems with a new update.
God of War: Sons of Sparta’s Latest Update Fixes a Major Issue
Mega Cat Studios has released a new update, version 1.0.0.7, for God of War: Sons of Sparta. The 2.3 GB update focuses on fixing issues with the save system, preventing lost or reverted progress caused by taking screenshots. It also includes general improvements to performance and gameplay. While the full list of changes hasn’t been detailed, players should experience a smoother and more stable game as they explore Laconia. Fans of this highly-rated Metroidvania are happy to see Mega Cat Studios continuing to refine the game.
A key update in God of War: Sons of Sparta Patch 1.0.0.7 addresses a frustrating problem with saving progress. Since the game launched, players on platforms like Reddit and Twitter have reported losing hours of gameplay because the game wasn’t properly saving their progress, even after they’d saved. Some also experienced frequent crashes around the 14-16 hour mark, which would reset their game to an earlier point. This became a big concern for the community, as players feared losing all their hard work.
Players are still experiencing several problems with God of War: Sons of Sparta, beyond just the initial issues. Reports include inaccurate enemy hit detection, game crashes, maps vanishing, and being unable to damage enemies. Mega Cat Studios has responded to some of this feedback, notably by allowing players to access co-op mode right from the beginning of the game.
I’m really hoping the developers address the major bugs that are actually stopping people from enjoying the game in the next updates. And like a lot of fans, I’d absolutely love to see God of War: Sons of Sparta come to PC. But honestly, I’m a little worried, because I’ve heard rumors Sony might be slowing down on releasing games for PC, which could mean we might never get it. We’ll just have to wait and see what Sony decides to do with this series.
