After exploring the first large area in Kena: Bridge of Spirits, players can start improving and unlocking new abilities. Since you’ll have earned some Karma through the tutorial, now’s a good time to spend it – but which ability should you unlock first?
This guide offers a thorough breakdown of Kena’s core abilities, helping players decide which ones to focus on to become more effective in both combat and when using the Rot.
Which Abilities to Prioritize in Kena: Bridge of Spirits
- Rot Hammer: Produces a blast of spiritual energy (consuming a Rot Action) that can hit foes from afar in a wide area. It is a perfect skill to deal with large numbers of smaller enemies (cannon fodder) that can get pretty annoying when they gang up on Kena. This is one of the first abilities players should aim to unlock if they want to reach further stages of the adventure, since it will be useful for combat. It requires 100 Karma to unlock.
- Enter The Fray: This is a passive skill that grants Kena one charge of Rot Action available when combat begins. It is indispensable for her to react quicker and use other skills, so getting this passive is a must-have in the early stages of the game. It requires Rot Level 2 and 150 Karma to unlock.
- Sprint Attack Light & Heavy: As the name implies, the Sprint Attack requires players to use the Left Stick button to sprint, then use any of the attacks to unleash a powerful opening sweep (Light) or an overhead attack (Heavy) that causes tons of damage. Sprint Attack Light costs 65 Karma, and Sprint Attack Heavy costs 100 Karma to be unlocked.
- Parry Counter: An absolutely essential skill. It costs 150 Karma to be unlocked, and adds the ability to do a powerful spinning counterattack as a reaction after hitting a perfect parry with Kena’s spirit shield. Time it correctly to gain the upper hand in battle even when cornered by stronger enemies.
- Shield Health + & Shield Health ++: Since Kena doesn’t have any type of armor except her spiritual shield, and this can only take a few blows before it bursts and leaves her absolutely exposed, taking Shield Health+ will result in her defensive skill being greatly enhanced. Shield Health++ further enhances the strength of the Shield, making it resist even more blows before it bursts. This is a mid-tier priority upgrade, but still, players should consider taking it rather sooner than later, or they’ll regret not having it during the most critical encounters.
