Later, Phoebe visited Ross’s new apartment and saw Chandler and Monica undressing – a hilarious moment for her character. Phoebe reacted with a chaotic yell of “My eyes!” while Rachel attempted to soothe her and keep Ross from noticing what was happening.

This moment sets off a playful dynamic where a group of friends secretly know something others don’t, and this continues throughout the episode. From the very beginning, the characters constantly mentioned, watched, and talked about a mysterious neighbor known only as “Ugly Naked Guy.” The show never revealed his face, name, or anything else about him – except that he was a nudist who lived across the street and was visible from Monica and Rachel’s window.

Despite being a recurring background character, the group from Friends rarely interacts with Ugly Naked Guy. The first time they do is in Season 3 when they build a long pole to check if he’s okay after suspecting he’s passed away. However, the first direct interaction happens in the episode “The One Where Everybody Finds Out.” Ross visits Ugly Naked Guy’s apartment to ask about renting it, and in a bizarre exchange, Ross slow-claps him, removes his own clothes, and joins him in being naked.

Ross eventually gets the apartment across the hall from Monica and Rachel (and later, Monica and Chandler), and stays there for the rest of the series. Bringing the running gag of Ugly Naked Guy into Ross’s apartment search, and then using it to develop Monica and Chandler’s relationship, was a smart and funny move.
