How to Start Borderlands 4 Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned DLC

Okay, so Borderlands 4: Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned is finally here! I’m super excited to jump in and see what the story is all about, what crazy bosses I’ll be fighting, and, of course, what awesome loot they’ve hidden. They’ve even added a new playable character, C4SH, and a whole new campaign. I’m trying to figure out the best way to start the DLC right now – gotta get prepped!

You can begin the downloadable content with any of your characters by going to Zadra’s Lab in the Fadefields. We’ve included a map showing the exact location, and you can use Fast Travel to get there quickly. Be sure to gather supplies and prepare for battle, then check out our guide below!

To start the first mission, both you and everyone in your party need to have the Vault of the Damned DLC installed.

How to Start Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned in Borderlands 4

  • You must first have completed “A Lot to Process”, the fourth main mission in Borderlands 4.
  • If you’ve already completed this mission, head to the “Zadra’s Backup Plan” Fast Travel Station in the Dissected Plateau, Fadefields.
  • Inside Zadra’s Lab, you’ll find a statue that can be interacted with to begin “An Invitation” mission, which will throw you into the DLC’s first mission.

To begin the DLC with a fresh character or play as C4SH right away, choose “New Game” from the main menu and select “Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned.” This will start a new game at level 13, placing you directly into the DLC content.
