Hideo Kojima Announces Death Stranding has had 19 Million Players

As a long-time fan of Hideo Kojima’s groundbreaking works, I am absolutely thrilled to see Death Stranding reach such a monumental milestone with 19 million players worldwide. It’s been an incredible journey since its release, and witnessing the game’s success on various platforms is truly heartwarming. The announcement of Death Stranding 2 coming to Xbox feels like the cherry on top of an already impressive cake.

Hideo Kojima disclosed that over 19 million gamers across the globe have played Death Stranding, a figure revealed prior to the unveiling of its Xbox version.

On Hideo Kojima’s X account (previously Twitter), it was announced that the fifth anniversary of Death Stranding’s release is on November 8th, a fact shared by Kojima himself. In the thank you video, Kojima also disclosed that the game has already sold approximately 19 million copies as of now.

Kojima stated that we’ve grown across multiple channels, and now our user base surpasses 19 million globally, a fact he expressed his appreciation for.

After an unexpected secret release yesterday, Kojima revealed that the Director’s Cut of Death Stranding is now available for Xbox with a 50% reduction in price. The publishing company handling Death Stranding for Xbox is 505 Games.

Kojima Productions has taken full control of the Death Stranding intellectual property, signaling that a potential sequel might eventually appear on the Xbox as well. Currently, Death Stranding 2 is slated for a 2025 launch exclusively on the PlayStation 5.

Besides what you’ve already seen with Death Stranding, there are more projects underway. Just recently, Kojima shared that multiple adaptations of Death Stranding are being developed.

During his interview, Kojima spoke about what the team is building with the Death Stranding IP:

I’ve penned a unique screenplay distinct from “Death Stranding” adaptations, destined for the big screen. However, my schedule doesn’t allow me to take on the director’s role for this project at present, so it remains unrealized.
