Monster Hunter Wilds director admits his action RPG’s “difficulty curve was a little lacking” at first, but he’d love it if anyone who dropped it at launch gave it another try

Seeing the list of nominees for The Game Awards 2025, I would have been surprised at the absence of Monster Hunter Wilds if you’d shown it to me last year – after my initial excitement about the new Donkey Kong game, of course. Monster Hunter Wilds seemed like a strong contender, but performance problems and lower-than-expected sales compared to Monster Hunter Rise have hurt its chances.
