CZ Reacts to Anniversary of FTX Disaster

As an analyst with extensive experience in the cryptocurrency industry, I find it fascinating to observe the tumultuous journey of Changpeng Zhao (CZ) and Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF). The past couple of years have been a rollercoaster ride for both these crypto moguls.

In a recent social media post, former Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao commented on the second anniversary of the FTX collapse.

Zhao joked that it “definitely” felt like these events took place 20 years ago.

Come November 8th, 2022, the second-largest digital currency trading platform, FTX, began to swiftly disintegrate.

Following disagreements with Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX, Changpeng Zhao stunned the cryptocurrency sector by disclosing that Binance had agreed in principle to purchase their main competitor, a move made necessary due to FTX encountering a severe cash flow problem.

It also turned out that FTX had ceased processing withdrawals, pushing crypto prices sharply lower.

Ultimately, it was discovered that Bankman-Fried had orchestrated a huge fraud scheme, misappropriating billions of dollars from unsuspecting clients of the exchange.

Bankman-Fried ended up being sentenced to 25 years behind bars back in March.

Even though Zhao triumphed in his public dispute with Bankman-Fried, he subsequently faced a fall from favor. Earlier this year, he spent several months incarcerated at a low-security prison following his guilty plea for breaching anti-money laundering regulations. Additionally, he relinquished the position of CEO at Binance in 2023.

Though both prominent figures in the crypto world have faced incarceration, it’s crucial to understand that their circumstances are not at all alike. In an interview with Bloomberg, Zhao made clear that likening him to Bankman-Fried would be similar to comparing a burglar to someone who neglected to register a company.

As reported by U.Today, Zhao does not want to go back to spearheading the Binance exchange.
