Similar to the Winter Frost season, the Dreamlight Cinematics event in Heartopia adds new, limited-time fish to the game. These fish all have a theme based on movie director-style octopuses. To catch them, simply go to the Whale Sea, located on the eastern side of the island, near Whale Mountain. They’ll appear throughout the day in different types. Where to Find Dreamlight Cinematics Fish in Heartopia
As of right now, only four Dreamlight Cinematic Fish are available in Heartopia. You can find all of these fish in the Whale Sea, near the beach by Whale Mountain. This is also the only location where you’ll be able to catch the special event octopuses during the Dreamlight Cinematic event.
These fish don’t spawn very quickly, so you’ll need to be patient while fishing. Luckily, unlike many other fish in Heartopia, you can catch them any time of day – you won’t have to worry about specific times or schedules. While the area might seem a little calm compared to other fishing spots, it’s still the only place to reliably find these special, limited-time fish.
All Dreamlight Cinematics Fish Variants and Shadows
Okay, so the Dreamlight Valley event has a bunch of different octopuses showing up, and they’re seriously adorable! They’ve got little cinematic accessories – I’m talking hats and sunglasses, it’s hilarious. Here’s a list of all the fish I’ve been able to catch so far:
- Director Pygmy Octopus with Brown Hat
- Director Pygmy Octopus with Cyan Hat
- Director Pygmy Octopus with Navy Hat
- Director Common Octopus with Cinnamon Hat
Pygmy octopuses are generally smaller and blend in well, making them easier to find and collect. The Cinnamon Hat octopus is different—it’s larger and more noticeable, so look for bigger disturbances or ripples on the water’s surface if you’re trying to find one.
You can’t catch all the fish in Dreamlight Valley’s Cinematics event immediately. One type of octopus won’t be available until later in the event, over the next few weeks. We suggest saving this guide and returning to it to learn when you can finally catch the last octopus variety.

You can start buying Mermaid Fish Attractors once you reach level four in the fishing hobby. They’re available from Vanya, and when used, they’ll make fish appear more often in a small area, helping you catch specific types of fish more quickly.
You unlock Mermaid Perfume at level six, and you can also purchase it from Vanya. Using it completely bypasses the fishing reeling minigame, letting you catch fish instantly. This is a major time-saver, especially when you’re trying to catch rare or valuable fish.

Where to Find Vanya
Vanya is the go-to fishing expert in Heartopia, and you can usually find him near the water, especially around Garden Street. He first guides you through the basics of fishing at the pier, and then he’s always available to help. Vanya sells everything you need for fishing and can teach you new skills and techniques.
Sometimes, characters will move to different spots during special events, like festivals. If you can’t find a specific character, be sure to check your map – their icon will show you where they are.
How to Sell Dreamlight Cinematics Fish
After you catch Dreamlight fish in the cinematics, selling them is the easiest way to earn gold. To sell your catch in Heartopia, you’ll need to find Albert Jr. He wanders around the main part of the island, so his location changes. The fastest way to find him is to check your map for his icon and then go to where it shows he is.
Once you find the character, talk to them and choose the option to sell items. This will show your inventory, letting you pick which fish to sell – including any special Dreamlight Cinematics octopus you have. Once you confirm, you’ll immediately get gold depending on the kind and how rare the fish are.
