One of the Scariest Horror Games of the Last Decade is Officially Coming to the Switch 2

Frictional Games’ survival horror game, Amnesia: Rebirth, is finally coming to the Switch 2, over five years after its initial release. This installment in the popular Amnesia series takes players from a haunted castle to the Algerian desert, where they guide engineer Tasi Trianon as she faces terrifying challenges. Soon, even more players will be able to enjoy the game’s frightening creatures and engaging puzzles on the go with Nintendo’s new handheld console.

Amnesia: Rebirth offers a new experience compared to earlier Amnesia games, which were famous for their sudden scares and unsettling, paranoid feeling while exploring Brennenburg Castle. The game follows Tasi, who wakes up with amnesia after a plane crash in the Algerian desert. She has to piece together her lost memories and figure out why she was traveling there, all while facing frightening dangers in dark caves and abandoned places. Unlike the original games, Amnesia: Rebirth doesn’t immediately bombard players with jump scares, but it still creates that same creepy and claustrophobic atmosphere that Amnesia is known for.

Amnesia: Rebirth Coming Soon on Switch 2

  • Amnesia: Rebirth Switch 2 Release Date: April 30, 2026

Originally released in 2020 for PC and PlayStation 4, the horror game Amnesia: Rebirth is coming to the Switch 2 on April 30, 2026. Developer Frictionless Games and publisher Abylight Studios have optimized the game to take full advantage of the console’s new capabilities. Amnesia: Rebirth focuses on a first-person horror experience where players must strategically manage resources and maintain both the physical and mental well-being of the protagonist, Tasi. It’s expected to be a frightening and enjoyable game for newcomers, especially for those who have already played Resident Evil Requiem on the Switch 2.

When I heard Amnesia: Rebirth was coming to the Switch 2, I was stoked! A lot of us who loved it the first time around are excited to replay it on the go, and I know plenty of new players who are finally going to check it out. But honestly, some people aren’t thrilled about the Switch 2 port – they’re still waiting to upgrade their consoles. Nintendo definitely caught some heat after revealing the Switch 2 almost a year ago, with a lot of complaints about how expensive the console and its games are. But things have been turning around lately! Pokemon Pokopia has been a huge hit, and we’ve seen a big jump in Switch 2 sales and Nintendo’s stock because of it.

More Games

Horror games often don’t get the attention they deserve because of their intense and complex nature, so it’s important they’re available on many different gaming systems. Following the success of games like Amnesia: Rebirth and Resident Evil Requiem, there’s a great opportunity to bring more overlooked horror titles to the Switch 2, particularly those that didn’t make it to the original Switch. This wider availability could help revitalize the horror survival genre, letting more players discover these fantastic games.

Besides releasing Amnesia: Rebirth on the Switch 2, Frictionless Games is currently developing a new game called Ontos. Described as a spiritual successor to their game Soma, Ontos is a science fiction adventure set in a renovated moon hotel named Samsara. Players will face unsettling experiments and disturbing events that blur the line between what’s real and what isn’t. The gameplay focuses on a captivating story and exploration, where you’ll gather resources and use machines to finish objectives. Currently, Ontos is expected to launch in 2026 and promises to be another thrilling horror experience from the developer.
