Best Weapons In RE4 Remake: Separate Ways

Ada Wong, the iconic red-clad character, takes center stage in Resident Evil 4 Remake: Separate Ways, a new downloadable content pack inspired by the original 2005 game. As a secret agent tasked with retrieving the Amber from the Los Iluminados, Ada faces a challenging 6-hour campaign filled with danger, including battles against seven different bosses. To succeed, she’ll need a powerful arsenal of weapons.

As a huge fan, I’m loving how Separate Ways in RE4 Remake really takes advantage of everything the game does well. You’re constantly fighting off waves of zombies as Ada Wong, and thankfully, you get to unlock better and better weapons as you go. These weapons are essential, not just for dealing with the undead, but also for taking down the bigger, more dangerous Bio-Organic Weapons that are trying to stop Ada from completing her mission. And honestly, some of these weapons are definitely more useful than others!

We didn’t include the Rocket Launcher and Chicago Sweeper because they’re special weapons best used in specific situations. The Rocket Launcher is really meant for boss battles – using it on regular enemies would waste ammo. However, once you start New Game Plus, you can buy an Infinite Rocket Launcher for 2 million Pesetas, though the price goes up if you don’t have the Ashley Charm.

If you’re aiming for an S+ rank on Professional Mode, the Chicago Sweeper is a top pick – but you’ll need to purchase the infinite ammo ticket to really unlock its potential. Without it, the gun is decent, though held back by slow reloading and relatively low damage. With infinite ammo, however, it can quickly eliminate most enemies.

10. Elite Knife

Save Creds With Reliability After Replacing The Combat Knife

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5
Power 0.55 (can upgrade to 1.10) 0.60 (can upgrade to 1.20) 0.65 (can upgrade to 1.30) 0.70 (can upgrade to 1.40) 0.75 (can upgrade to 1.50)
Attack Speed 1.20

Once players complete all Merchant Requests, they unlock the Elite Knife as a bonus weapon in the Extras menu. This knife is incredibly durable, saving Ada money she can use to improve other weapons. Although its maximum power is around 2, the Elite Knife is very effective for close-quarters combat.

While the Elite Knife does slightly lower overall performance, it’s a great addition after finishing the game for the first time. It’s a perfect upgrade from the Combat Knife because of how well it performs. Since it can’t break, Ada can consistently use it for stealth attacks and important close-quarters fights without needing to worry about costly repairs.

You can unlock this weapon by finishing all 7 Merchant Requests. Don’t worry, you don’t have to complete them all in one game! Once they’re all done, you can buy the weapon from the Extras menu using 1,000 Challenge Points.

9. Punisher MC

Laser Sight Buff Can Make This An Accurate Emergency Weapon

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5
Power 0.90 1.20 1.50 1.80 2.20
Ammo 12 15 18 21 24
Reload Speed 1.10 1.20 1.30 1.40 1.50
Firing Rate 1.05 1.26 1.42 1.63 1.91

Okay, so I’ve been playing around with the pistols in this game mode, and the Punisher MC is definitely the weakest stat-wise. But honestly, it’s not totally useless. It’s one of the few guns Ada can use with a laser sight, which is awesome, and it can actually pierce through enemies. If you’re playing Separate Ways and you like playing as Leon, relying on sights for accuracy, the Punisher MC might actually be a comfortable choice for you. It lets you play how you’re used to!

The Punisher MC pistol isn’t Ada’s strongest weapon, but it’s surprisingly helpful for controlling groups of enemies. It can shoot through multiple targets – starting with two, and upgrading to five – which is great for clearing tight spaces. Plus, Ada’s the only one who can use it with the Laser Sight, significantly improving her aim.

You can buy the Punisher motorcycle from the Merchant starting in Chapter 2 for 10,000 Pesetas.

8. Stingray

Semi-Auto Nature Lets Ada Fight At Mid-Range

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5
Power 3.30 3.70 4.10 4.50 4.90
Ammo 10 12 14 16 18
Reload Speed 0.84 0.93 1.01 1.09 1.18
Firing Rate 0.73 0.77 0.81 0.86 0.92

I was a little worried the Stingray might be slow because it’s so heavy, but it’s actually really dangerous when used right! The stats definitely show it’s best at long distances, but I think Ada can also rely on it in medium-range fights thanks to how quickly it fires and the fact it’s semi-automatic. It’s a surprisingly versatile weapon!

Okay, so the Stingray is a bit of a beast when it comes to inventory space – it’s a heavy gun, for sure. But honestly, if you want something that can handle a little bit of everything, it’s a solid pick. It doesn’t hit as hard as my M1903, meaning I need to land more shots to take down enemies, but the fire rate is insane. That makes it surprisingly good in medium-range fights. I’ve been using it to quickly burst down opponents when I don’t want to switch between sniper and assault rifles.

The Stingray becomes available in the Merchant’s shop later in the game, starting from Chapter 5. It costs 20,000 Pesetas.

7. Blacktail

Serviceable Pistol For Most Situations

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5
Power 1.00 (can upgrade to 1.50) 1.30 (can upgrade to 1.95) 1.60 (can upgrade to 2.40) 2.00 (can upgrade to 3.00) 2.40 (can upgrade to 3.60)
Ammo 9 10 11 12 13
Reload Speed 1.10 1.20 1.30 1.40 1.50
Firing Rate 1.19 1.33 1.63 1.91 2.20

Although Leon doesn’t get the Blacktail until later in the game, Ada starts Separate Ways with the Pistol, quickly establishing it as a dependable secondary weapon. It’s a well-rounded choice with good stats, making it useful for players who want to conserve ammo for their stronger main weapons and avoid constantly switching firearms.

Even though the Blacktail is one of Ada’s starting guns and just as powerful as Leon’s, upgrading it makes it a great backup weapon for almost any situation. If Ada uses good positioning and aims carefully, she can defeat most enemies with the Blacktail without needing to rely on her stronger weapons unless she’s truly trapped.

Blacktail will immediately be available once you start “Separate Ways.”

6. TMP

All-Rounder Heavy Weapon For Most Enemies

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5
Power 0.50 0.65 0.80 0.95 1.10
Ammo 30 40 50 60 70
Reload Speed 1.00 1.10 1.20 1.30 1.40

The TMP is a versatile weapon for Ada, falling between her weaker pistols and more powerful rifles. As a fully automatic machine pistol, it gives her a quick-firing option—like a mini-SMG—that’s great for dealing with groups of enemies without a significant loss of firepower.

The TMP isn’t a powerhouse weapon, but it’s versatile. It strikes a good balance between dealing with groups of enemies and taking on mini-bosses, especially when equipped with stronger gear. With weapons like the improved M1903 offering more raw power, the TMP becomes a great choice for quickly clearing out crowds that need a bit more firepower than a pistol, but don’t require the extreme power of something like the Blast Crossbow.

The TMP will immediately be available once you start “Separate Ways.”

5. Flash Grenade

Demolish Enemies Much Faster With Stuns

Damage 2000
Size 2 (1×2)

Ada’s Flash Grenade isn’t a typical weapon for direct damage; it’s more of a combat support tool. But unlike flashbangs in other games, Ada’s Flash Grenade actually deals a significant 2000 damage. This lets her quickly defeat weaker enemies, and it’s especially effective when used to finish off stunned, tougher enemies.

Although it’s meant to be thrown, the Flash Grenade is a useful tool for Ada, particularly when dealing with groups of enemies. A direct hit can instantly eliminate weaker opponents and stun tougher ones. When surrounded, Ada can use Flash Grenades to create an opening for escape, followed by a Plaga shot or melee attack to finish them off.

You begin the game with one grenade, but you can find many more as you play. Plus, you can purchase the blueprint for Flash Grenades from the Merchant, letting you create them with gunpowder and other materials.

4. Sawed-Off W-870

Low Ammo Capacity, But The Wide Spread Makes It A Crowd Control Must-Have

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5
Power 6.00 (can upgrade to 9.00) 7.50 (can upgrade to 11.25) 9.00 (can upgrade to 13.50) 10.00 (can upgrade to 15.75) 12.00 (can upgrade to 18.00)
Ammo 3 4 5 6 7
Reload Speed 1 2 3 4 5
Firing Rate 0.45 0.51 0.56 0.63 0.85

In the Separate Ways section of the game, the Sawed-Off W-870 shotgun is essential because of its incredible power. Although it starts with slow reloading and limited ammo, fully upgrading it makes it one of the best weapons for quickly taking down groups of enemies at close range.

The Sawed-Off W-870 doesn’t hold many bullets – starting with only three and upgrading to a maximum of seven – which can be a drawback since Ada often fights several enemies at the same time. However, its wider shot spread and increased central damage let her take on groups of enemies more effectively, as long as she aims carefully to hit them all at once.

You can unlock the Sawed-off Shotgun relatively early in the game, specifically in Chapter 2. It costs 10,000 Pesetas to purchase from the Merchant.

3. Red9

A Powerful Gun Offset By Slow Firing And Inventory Consumption

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5
Power 1.50 (can upgrade to 2.25) 1.80 (can upgrade to 2.70) 2.10 (can upgrade to 3.15) 2.40 (can upgrade to 3.60) 2.70 (can upgrade to 4.05)
Ammo 8 10 12 14 16
Reload Speed 0.85 0.95 1.05 1.15 1.25
Firing Rate 0.90 0.96 1.05 1.16 1.26

The Red9 pistol in Separate Ways is a bit controversial because it’s large and powerful, similar to the Blast Crossbow. However, players who prefer a strong handgun should consider the Red9 as a good secondary weapon to pair with a long-range primary, giving Ada options for any combat situation.

Red9 is a powerful weapon that can be incredibly helpful in Ada’s tougher battles, especially if you’re finding the Blast Crossbow difficult to manage. While the Red9 is a bit slow to fire and reload, upgrading it can fix these issues. However, both weapons use the same type of ammo, so you’ll still need to craft bolts separately for the Blast Crossbow, which might make it a better choice overall.

The Red9 handgun is a powerful weapon unlocked later in the “Separate Ways” story. It becomes available for purchase from the Merchant for 14,000 Pesetas starting in Chapter 4.

2. Blast Crossbow

Crowd Control At Its Finest

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5
Power 13 15 17 19 22
Reload Speed 0.50 0.62 0.75 0.87 1.00

Ada’s design stands out thanks to her signature dark red color scheme, and the addition of the Blast Crossbow further emphasizes her unique look – she’s one of the few characters in Resident Evil with a truly individual style. In Separate Ways, this crossbow functions as a powerful shotgun that needs specific ammunition. Ada has to wait until Chapter 4 to be able to craft the special bolts she needs using knives.

The Blast Crossbow is Ada’s go-to weapon, and for good reason – it’s one of her most dependable tools throughout the game. While it’s not as fast-firing as the Shotgun, skilled aiming and faster reload upgrades can make it instantly lethal. Plus, because of how it works, you only need to find knives to reload, saving your gunpowder for other weapons.

Blast Crossbow can be found for free in Chapter 3’s Abandoned Factory.

1. SR M1903

An Ergonomic And Reliable Powerhouse When Upgraded

Level 1 Level 2 Level 3 Level 4 Level 5
Power 2.50 (can upgrade to 5.00) 3.20 (can upgrade to 6.40) 3.90 (can upgrade to 7.80) 4.60 (can upgrade to 9.20) 5.30 (can upgrade to 10.60)
Ammo 5 7 9 11 13
Reload Speed 1 2 3 4 5
Firing Rate 0.42 0.45 0.48 0.51 0.53

The SR M1903, though a Sniper Rifle, is exceptionally powerful in Separate Ways. While Ada Wong is best suited to use it for long-range attacks, skillful positioning and recoil control will allow her to effectively use it as both a close-range, high-damage weapon and a tool for long-distance takedowns.

The SR M1903, which you get for free early in the game, can become Ada’s most reliable weapon during a Separate Ways playthrough. While it doesn’t fire or reload very quickly at first, upgrades make it incredibly powerful against enemies. Plus, it doesn’t take up much space in your inventory, leaving room for other items.

I stumbled across the SR M1903 pretty early in the game – it’s in Castle Gate during Chapter 1. You’ll find it right next to that locked catapult, so keep an eye out!
