The Hito Hito no Mi is a remarkably dangerous Devil Fruit in the world of One Piece. It first appeared early in the series and has become increasingly significant due to its different, powerful versions. What makes this fruit unique is that it isn’t limited to a single user; several people have possessed its various forms, each with their own special abilities that make them formidable fighters.
Chopper
- Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi
Chopper is the Straw Hat Pirates’ doctor and a key character in the story of One Piece. As a child, he ate the Hito Hito no Mi, a Devil Fruit that allowed him to transform into a human or a human-reindeer hybrid. He faced discrimination because of how he looked, but was taken in and cared for by Hiruluk and later Kureha. Eventually, Chopper joined the Straw Hat Pirates and proved himself as a powerful member of the crew.
Chopper’s Devil Fruit, the Hito Hito no Mi, lets him transform into different forms, each with its own special ability. By taking Rumble Balls, he can access an incredibly powerful form called Monster Point, which proved too strong even for the CP9. He’s even used Monster Point to fight against powerful opponents like Queen the Plague. Currently, he can maintain Monster Point for 30 minutes during battle, making him a formidable fighter. As he continues to develop his abilities, the full potential of his Devil Fruit remains a mystery.
Onimaru
- Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Onyudo
Onimaru is a faithful fox companion to Shimotsuki Ushimaru, first appearing in the Wano Country Arc. About 20 years prior to the main events, Ushimaru was imprisoned. Since then, Onimaru has remained vigilant in Ringo, working to maintain and safeguard weapons, anticipating a future fight against Kaido.
Onimaru consumed the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Onyudo, a Devil Fruit that allowed him to transform into a powerful monk. He became strong enough to fight evenly with Zoro, a skilled swordsman, and even gained the upper hand at times. While not the most powerful character in the series, Onimaru possesses significant abilities. The Devil Fruit not only grants him the power to transform but also enhances his thinking, speech, and overall fighting prowess. Although the fruit hasn’t awakened yet, meaning its full potential remains untapped, it’s still an incredibly strong ability.

Sengoku
- Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu
Sengoku, the retired Fleet Admiral of the Navy, is an incredibly powerful fighter, as his former high rank demonstrates. He possesses the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Daibutsu Devil Fruit, which allows him to transform into a massive golden Buddha with immense strength. His primary attack involves releasing strong shockwaves from his hands, a technique he frequently used during the war, though it wasn’t as potent then as it is now.
Sengoku’s Devil Fruit, a Mythical Zoan type, is rumored to be exceptionally powerful. His ability to transform into a Buddha is closely tied to his reputation as Sengoku the Wise. He possesses immense strength, demonstrated by his ability to fight Blackbeard to a standstill. While the full extent of his powers remains a mystery, it’s clear that Sengoku is a formidable opponent.
Monkey D. Luffy
- Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi: Model: Nika
The main character, Monkey D. Luffy, actually possesses a rare type of Devil Fruit. For a long time, it was believed to be the Gomu Gomu no Mi, but during the Wano Country arc, its true power was revealed. After a near-fatal battle with Kaido, Luffy’s fruit awakened, and the Five Elders explained its real name: the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. This fruit grants the user a divine ability, transforming them into the Warrior of Liberation.
Luffy’s body is like rubber, giving him incredible freedom in battle. He’s limited only by his own imagination, allowing him to achieve the seemingly impossible and stand against any form of tyranny. He’s become one of the strongest characters in the series, and his awakened powers allowed him to defeat the formidable Kaido. Now, in the final arc, Luffy is even more powerful, skillfully combining advanced Haki with his already devastating Gear 5 form.
Joy Boy
- Devil Fruit: Hito Hito no Mi: Model: Nika
Joy Boy is considered the most powerful user of the Hito Hito no Mi in One Piece. Like Luffy, he possessed the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and consumed it long ago during the Void Century. He fully awakened the fruit’s abilities, demonstrated by his effortless use of the Gear 5 transformation.
Joy Boy was an exceptionally strong warrior, demonstrated by his powerful Haki, which even caused pain to Imu. He also mastered the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika Devil Fruit to a much greater degree than Luffy, likely because he possessed it for a long time. He was one of the most powerful characters ever seen in the series, and the Final Saga will reveal more about his history. After being defeated by the 20 Kings, his Devil Fruit mysteriously reappeared, avoiding capture by the World Government. Eventually, it was eaten by Luffy, who is now destined to become the next Joy Boy.
