Crimson Desert, the latest single-player open-world game from Pearl Abyss, is receiving a lot of positive feedback. However, fans in the Greymane gaming community are still hoping the developers will add a multiplayer option.
During a recent meeting with shareholders, Pearl Abyss CEO Heo Jin-Young discussed the potential for cooperative gameplay in Crimson Desert. He explained that while the team tried to add this feature, they ran into technical difficulties with current hardware capabilities.
Crimson Desert Multiplayer and Switch 2 Port Require Graphical Sacrifices

Crimson Desert is gaining popularity due to its engaging combat and vast, beautiful open world, though enjoying it requires a powerful computer.
Wow, this game is HUGE! It’s packed with so many details – amazing environments filled with life, from little bugs to all sorts of creatures and enemies. Honestly, if you want it to actually run well and look its best, you’re going to need a pretty powerful computer. It’s just that kind of game!
Pearl Abyss is facing challenges adding multiplayer to their game due to current hardware limitations. CEO Heo Jin-Young explained that while the development team tried to implement multiplayer, it would require significant compromises to the game’s graphics, creating a major obstacle.
Getting the game ready for multiplayer has been slowed down significantly by the need for powerful computer hardware.
We still don’t know if Crimson Desert will ever have cooperative gameplay. However, Pearl Abyss’s Heo Jin-Young shared that they’re also exploring a version for the new Switch 2. He explained that the Switch’s less powerful hardware presents a challenge, meaning they might have to cut some features. They’ve started researching how to make it work, though, and are interested in bringing the game to the platform.

Crimson Desert is receiving generally positive feedback on Steam, with an average critic score of 79 on OpenCritic. However, some players have criticized the story. Developer Heo Jin-Young acknowledged these concerns, stating the team wished they had more time to improve it. They prioritized refining the gameplay experience with the time they had remaining.
Pearl Abyss still needs to work out some technical issues to get Crimson Desert running well on the Switch 2 and enable multiplayer, but they may also add more story content or downloadable updates in the future to enrich the game.
