Naruto Most Legendary Jonin

Every village in the Hidden Leaf has a way of distinguishing skilled ninjas from those who need more training. Right below the village leader are the Jonin, who are the most powerful and capable fighters. Earning the rank of Jonin is incredibly difficult, as they represent the very best of the village.

Becoming a Jonin is incredibly challenging. Jonin are assigned only the most difficult and dangerous missions. Successfully completing these tasks earns them a legendary reputation.

This post contains spoilers for Naruto.

6. Jiraiya

Affiliation: Hidden Leaf, Sannin

  • Completed the most missions out of any ninja in history

Jiraiya was one of the three legendary ninja known as the Sannin – alongside Tsunade and Orochimaru. They earned this reputation during the Second Great Ninja War. Jiraiya, however, became the most well-known of the three, completing a vast number of missions throughout his career.

Jiraiya was deeply devoted to the Hidden Leaf Village and would do anything to keep it safe. He famously threatened Tsunade when he thought she was putting the village at risk. Beyond that, he trained numerous powerful ninjas who later became key figures in the story. What truly made him a legend was his dedication even after death – he left behind crucial information to help the Hidden Leaf fight against the Pain, and he sacrificed himself to teach his student the true meaning of being a ninja.

5. Shisui

Affiliation: Hidden Leaf, Uchiha Clan

  • Possessed one of the most dangerous Genjutsu in the series

Shisui was a rare Uchiha who cared more about protecting the Hidden Leaf Village than his own clan. Having witnessed the devastation of war early in life, he believed that violence wasn’t always the solution. Because of this, he always sought the most peaceful way to finish his assignments.

Despite preferring peace, Shisui was prepared for battle if necessary. He had a special ability called the Mangekyou Sharingan, which allowed him to use an incredibly strong illusion technique called Kotoamatsukami. This illusion was so effective that people didn’t even know they were being controlled. Combining this powerful ability with his quick movements, Shisui became a formidable ninja, feared by those who knew of him.

4. Sakura Haruno

Affiliation: Hidden Leaf, Team 7

  • Mastered her chakra control

I remember watching Sakura Haruno grow as a ninja. She started out on Team 7, with Kakashi as their leader, and honestly, people didn’t have high expectations for her at first. But she worked incredibly hard and really improved. By the time the Fourth Great Ninja War rolled around, she’d become amazingly strong – she actually exceeded even Tsunade’s power, especially in medical ninjutsu. I saw her use this technique called Strength of a Hundred, and it was incredible how she could heal even the most serious wounds and keep her teammates going.

After the war ended, Sakura earned her place in history as one of the heroes – alongside Naruto and Sasuke – who defeated Kaguya Otsutsuki and saved the world. While not everyone may like her, Sakura was undeniably the most powerful female ninja in the Naruto series.

3. Sakumo Hatake

Affiliation: Hidden Leaf

  • Strength comparable to that of the Sannin

Sakumo Hatake, Kakashi’s father, was a highly respected and feared ninja from the Hidden Leaf Village. Though he had passed away before the current events, his reputation remained incredibly strong. He was a famous hero of the Second Great Ninja War, and people considered him to be on the same level as the Legendary Sannin.

I remember when Sakumo earned the nickname “White Fang.” It wasn’t just a title – other ninja villages instantly knew him by his striking white hair, and they actively tried to avoid crossing paths with him in battle. It was a real shame when he tragically took his own life, cutting short what could have been an even more incredible career.

2. Might Guy

Affiliation: Hidden Leaf

  • Greatest taijutsu user in the series

Might Guy is considered one of the most skilled taijutsu masters in the Naruto series. Because he wasn’t naturally gifted at ninjutsu, his father pushed him to train incredibly hard to become physically strong. This intense training allowed him to master taijutsu, including the powerful Eight Gates technique.

Might Guy became incredibly powerful when he used the Eight Gates. Even exceptionally strong opponents like Itachi, Kisame, and Madara were amazed by his abilities. Madara even declared Guy the greatest master of hand-to-hand combat he’d ever faced.

1. Kakashi Hatake

Affiliation: Hidden Leaf, Team 7

  • A genius who could master any kind of jutsu

Kakashi Hatake is widely considered one of the greatest Jonin in the Naruto series. He spent much of the story teaching and guiding Team 7, and all of his students eventually became incredibly skilled ninjas. Beyond being a fantastic teacher, Kakashi was also a remarkably powerful fighter.

Kakashi became incredibly skilled with the Sharingan, despite not being born into the Uchiha clan – he used it just as well as any Uchiha ninja. He was so famous for this ability that people called him “Kakashi of the Sharingan.” Other ninja nations even tried to avoid fighting him. Later, Kakashi’s dedication and skill during the Fourth Great Ninja War led to him becoming the Sixth Hokage of the Hidden Leaf Village.
