As a huge fan of Stellaris, I’m so excited to hear they’re celebrating its tenth anniversary in May 2026 with about $40 worth of free content! It’s amazing to think it’s been almost seven years since Stellaris first came to Xbox Game Pass – it’s become a real go-to game for me thanks to Game Pass, and this feels like a great way to thank players.
As of December 2025, Stellaris has sold over 8 million copies, making it one of the best-selling 4X grand strategy games of all time. Its popularity has been significantly increased by its inclusion in Xbox Game Pass, where it’s been available to subscribers since August 2019.
Stellaris to Incorporate 3 Premium DLCs Into Base Game in May 2026
To celebrate its upcoming seventh anniversary on Microsoft’s subscription service, Paradox Interactive will be including three popular add-ons – Utopia, Synthetic Dawn, and Humanoids Species – directly into the base version of Stellaris. This change will happen on May 11, 2026. These DLC packs, originally released in 2017 and previously costing almost $40 combined, will then be available to all players without needing to be purchased separately.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary on May 9th, Stellaris will be updating its base game to include content from the 2017 expansions and most of the extras from the Galaxy Edition. The only exception is the Infinite Frontiers e-book, which will no longer be available. Paradox Interactive describes this as a way to enhance the core game experience for all players. This update, currently confirmed for PC, could revitalize the game and attract new and returning players.
Stellaris 10th Anniversary Freebies
| DLC | Previous Price |
|---|---|
| Stellaris: Utopia | $19.99 |
| Stellaris: Synthetic Dawn Story Pack | $9.99 |
| Stellaris: Humanoids Species Pack | $9.99 |
Starting May 11, 2026, the content from Utopia, Synthetic Dawn, and Humanoid Species will be included with the main game. Currently, this update is only confirmed for PC players.
This new content significantly expands the original game, which usually costs $39.99. The three downloadable packs add a lot of new ways to play, including features like Machine Empires, custom portraits for synthetic races, new government types, the ability to start with a Clone Army, more ship designs, and extra voiceovers.
Currently, the free game offer has only been confirmed for PC, but it’s likely to include Stellaris on Xbox Game Pass. Stellaris has been available to Microsoft subscribers since August 2019, and remained accessible through the service even after it changed its subscription tiers in September 2024. After being added to Xbox Game Pass Essential in December 2025, Stellaris is now available to all Game Pass members.
.
Because Stellaris isn’t directly published by Microsoft, it might not stay on Xbox Game Pass forever. However, it’s been available for almost seven years, suggesting it will remain in the service for a while yet. This is made even more likely by its recent inclusion in the Xbox Game Pass Essential library. Since launching (originally as Xbox Game Pass Core, then renamed Essential in October 2025), that lower-priced tier has consistently added games without removing any, which is a good sign for Stellaris’s continued availability.
Stellaris Is Getting a Permanent Price Hike Soon
As a huge Stellaris fan, I’m really excited about the addition of Utopia, the Humanoids Species Pack, and Synthetic Dawn to the game, especially for those of us on Xbox Game Pass – it makes the whole package even more worthwhile! If you’re on PC and were thinking about buying those expansions, I’d probably hold off now, because Paradox is planning to bundle them into the base game eventually. There is a catch, though: they’re raising the price of the base game from $39.99 to $49.99 in May 2026. So, the best time to get Stellaris is definitely before that price increase, or if you’re already a Game Pass subscriber – we’re all winning!
